Amazing pants Horrible button.

I have 3 pairs of these pants. I wear them daily. Great for work, or dress. They feel great, work great and I get more compliments on these pants than any pants I’ve ever owned. I love them. BUT THE BUTTON SUCKS! It pops open way too easily. Has no strength at all. These pants are a 9/10. If they had a button fly like Levi’s 501 they would be 10/10.

The button is useless

I know you might think why the 2 stars because of the button? Well, the pants are great, feel very solid built, very comfortable, however, the thing which is supposed to be a button , it's actually a snap on kinda thingie.don't even know what to call it. After a week or so of wearing the pants, it keeps coming loose, so be prepared to either keep closing it or have your pants fall down. I wonder which genius figure out that a button is not good anymore and instead put this useless thing. Stop reinventing things people....anyhow, should I have the chance to make the purchase again, I'd definitely look into getting something else.

Does not live up to first impressions

Pros: - Comfortable loose fit (at least before shrinkage), with darts at key points on legs. - Nice cell phone pocket on outside of thigh. Cons: - Fabric is very fragile. - Shrinks a lot. - Wrinkles a lot. Regarding poor durability/fragility: I really liked the feel of the first pair of these that I bought, so I bought two more, before I had used them enough to notice the weakness of the fabric. It is very misleading: gives an impression of heavy duty, but then holes start opening up in random places. It seems that though the cloth is thick, the thread quality is poor. I did not subject these to heavy use. No rock climbing, kneeling on abrasive surfaces, wading through brush, etc. In the photos, note the wear around the pocket edges. That is just from my hands. I don't wear rings, or keep tools in my pockets. Note the wear around the cuffs. That is just from rubbing my shoes. The pants are short enough that they don't come anywhere near the ground. (Ironic that the fabric is doubled along part of the cuff, but not where the wear is worst?) Note the hole in the front of the thigh. Regarding shrinkage and wrinkling: The first time I washed my first pair, I put them through the dryer, and was shocked. They came out stiff and very wrinkly, and they shrank so much that I could no longer fit my iPhone (with Otterbox case) in the phone-pocket. So, from that point on I avoided the dryer, and used a pair of metal stretchers to hand-dry them. That solved these problems, more or less.

Mixed feelings; great fit, but they look worn fast

I love Kuhl products, but these pants disappointed me. Love the fit, but I got two pairs in dark colors and they both developed a streaky pattern of fading after the first wash. I followed the instructions and air dry them. I've only had them a few weeks and they look 10 years old. They're fine for hiking or yard work, but I can't wear them to the office or out to dinner.

Faulty snaps.

KUHL Rydr pants don’t stay snapped. Minor activity such as bending over to tie shoes or getting in the car they unsnap. I thought maybe I purchased a size to small 32” waist, so I bought another pair with 33” waist and they do the same, however I need to wear a belt with that size.

My fav pants ever, but- WORST BUTTON EVER.

This is my second pair of these pants- I love them. My first pair is still going strong after 6-7 years of frequent use. I have received many compliments on these pants. Again, AWESOME PANTS BUT THE BUTTON IS TERRIBLE. The pants are so good I continue to wear them and bought a second pair, but the button pops open ALL THE TIME. Several friends have bought these pants as well and have the EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. I am considering returning my new pair, as they last for years and do not want to deal with the button for many moons to come. Kuhl- homerun on the britches, fail on the button. Please put a normal button on these.

Poor snap design

I bought a pair of Rydrs...love the fit, fabric and the look. When I bought them, the snap was snug and secure. After wearing the pants twice, the snap loosened to the point where it released pretty much every time I did anything other than walk. I contacted an REI rep and asked if this was normal...answer was 'no' and they exchanged them no issue (that part was great). Next pair - same thing. Pretty poor design IMO when there are better options (see Levis!). You might be thinking "yeah, this guy is just overweight and bought the wrong size". I'm sure I could stand to lose a few pounds, but who can't?? So, take this review as you will. Love the pants...but what a lousy snap design (sadly).

Cool design, but poor durability and flawed button

Really nice cut and pockets. I love the pocket layout and details. Unfortunately the button prone to unbuttoning if you sneeze, squat down, or walk across a parking lot with your hands full on a day you chose not to wear underwear. That was a fun 50 paces back to my car. The company doesn't really stand behind their product the same way Patagonia does. The fabric doesn't hold up much better than ordinary denim. Despite this I've purchased multiple pairs, but Kuhl's lack of support for fixing the defective button has discouraged me from purchasing again. I'm going to hire a tailor to replace the buttons on the pairs I do have, and once they're worn out I won't be buying any more of their Kräp.

Small fixable issue for a pair of great pants

Kuhl products seem to be well made with quality material, tailor like fitting and reinforcement where needed. I ended up purchasing three pair of the Ryder pants that I felt were worth the price tag for the good fit and overall feel of material. Only complaint I had is the open ring style snap that would typically be a button were easily coming undone with normal activity. Compressing down on the center part of the snap with a pair of vise grips bulged it out enough that the snap locks together much tighter and have not had any issues since.

Cheapened a once-great product

I've always been happy with my previous pairs, but my latest purchase was a severe disappointment. Kuhl has changed the material it uses for the front pockets from the old cotton or muslin to a newer spandex that feels cheap, stretchy and insecure. It doesn't align with my intended use (work attire and light to medium hiking, yardwork, etc.) as I've experienced quality issues with this same material in a past product. Pockets are probably the one detail in a pair of pants that sees frequent daily contact from the wearer's hands. The newer fabric doesn't directly impact overall fit or comfort, but it does feel very weird - as if I were wearing a pair of leotards or running shorts instead of a pair of rugged pants. Pockets don't need to stretch; they need to fit well and be secure and accessible. I understand the concept of continuous improvement, but this looks more like a cost-cutting or supply-chain issue. The unannounced switch has lost my trust in this brand; if they changed this material then what next?

all day err’day

I own 4 pairs. Except for 1 pair of Origin Jocko jeans and work clothes, these are the only pants I wear. The cel phone pocket is totes perf. Many folks have been critical of the snap closure. I suspect they are too fat and should size up. If these pants fit the snap is a non-issue. If you are stress testing the waist, the snap closure will pop open all day long. I lived this. After getting too fat for my 32/30 pairs I bought 34/30. Not proud. But it needed to happen. All good now. The do fade and wrinkle but…don’t wear these out to a fancy dinner. They ain’t for that.
