Single handed Linesman Belt Operation
My Son and I both are running these Ropeman 1 Ascenders from Wild Country with Black Diamond RockLock Screwgate Locking Carabiners, off of 11mm Static Line from REI. I found out about the system from Traditional Bowhunting and Wilderness Podcast on youtube. I have a HSS Harness and I was using the original "webbing style" linesman's belt that came with the set up. Then I tried to use the static line with a prusik knot. I bought my Son the Ropeman 1 Ascender, then after I tried it I ordered one for myself immediately. It is so easy, effortless, safe and convenient. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is considering spending the money, go for it.
ROPEMAN 1 Hunting Use Review
Great tool for using on your lineman’s rope and tether rope. Using the lineman’s rope with the ropeman ascender allows you to get closer and farther from the tree you are climbing all with a single hand allowing you to move up the tree quicker even with having climbing sticks or other various accessories in your other hand. On the other hand, using it on the tether rope allows for less time precisely getting it in a comfortable position for using on a hang on stand but especially while saddle hunting. I personally have transitioned into saddle hunting this year and using the ascender has been the best purchase by far.

more convenient than prusik knot
I use 2 of these, one for my linesman belt and one for my tether while deer hunting out of a tree saddle. Works great and is far more user friendly than traditional prusik knot. Great for adjustments with one hand ease, especially on cold day with limited dexterity
best for the money
I bought this for deer hunting and it has been a breeze when using this with one hand. Simple design with excellent holding power when needed. The teeth on this is not aggressive so you can use it without it digging into your rope. This item is great for either hunting application or tree cutting. When you need a stable small light weight rope grabber at a really good price, then this is what you need.
Works as advertised.
Use a pair to toprope solo. I didn’t die so yeah it works as advertised.
Rope man 1
Actually purchased for a gift ,but I do use the same ascender for a linesman belt for hanging deer stands !
better suited to tree work than rock climbing
I bought both this and the Ropeman 2, but ended up returning this Ropeman 1 as it doesn’t work as well for rock climbing. Pros: works well, engages firmly, did its job and arrested a fall, gentler on the rope given its teeth. It is also a little easier to disengage, than the Ropeman 2 and I was able to leave it on and use it as a backup while rappelling. It also captures progress easily and with a prussik tied above it as a backup, it bumps the prussik along nicely and captures progress with minimal shuffling on my end. Cons: it really does need thick rope. It specifies 10mm. My rope is 9.8mm, and when I took a fall on it, even though it was short, hanging on a dynamic rope got it stretched out and wedged in between the cam and the lobe such that it was a huge pain to get out of. It also rests the lobes on the teeth, as opposed to the Ropeman 2, which has a steel cam and bars that stick out on the back to contact with the lobes when not in use. Ultimately, it’s not great for rock climbing, but probably ideal for tree work. The heavier rope required adds a ton of weight, and although being able to leave it on as a backup when rappelling is convenient and much easier than with the Ropeman 2, the Ropeman 2 proved superior for progress capture, especially on thinner rope.
Perfect for saddle hunting
As a saddle hunter there are two things that need easy adjustment while being up in a tree, your linemans belt and your tether. This is the product the replaces the prussic knot on your linemans belt and tether and it makes life sooooo much easier. If you can get more than one that you should because it's not a bad idea to stock up on these
For larger sized rope
It didn’t hold for me on a 10mm dynamic rope, but worked great for a 1/2” static rope. The ropeman 2 worked great for the 10mm dynamic rope. I recommend the ropeman 2 for dynamic rope over the ropeman 1.
Well made
Very well engineered and should work well for linemen’s harness for climbing in and out of portable deer stands. Compact and light but well engineered.
