Comments about Marmot Zion Jacket - Men's:

I just purchased this jacket (using my 20% off coupon--thank you REI!) and I'm extremely happy with it thus far. The fit is great; it feels slightly strange when it first goes on, but no different than any other attached-hood jacket I tried on in comparison. Once it's on, it moves with you and has enough room to be comfortable and unrestrictive, but not so much that you feel like you're wearing a garbage bag.

I'm 6'2", 230ish lbs and bought a large. The sleeve length is excellent (I'm a 34/35 in shirts), and comes back off my wrist only when I have both arms fully extended in a full reach forward. The jacket has enough room on me to get a Polartec 200-weight fleece jacket on without making me look like the Stay-Puft marshmallow man, still leaving room to move.

The back is long enough I could wear this on my bike as rain gear, though the tail wouldn't be long enough to hang below my seat. The shell is soft and relatively quiet--slightly noisier than my REI Neo Jacket, much quieter than any other traditional hard shell.

One tech at a local store thought the brushed lining in the jacket would make it too warm to wear as a rain jacket in the summer, but I think it'll work great for me in any but the super-hot, super-muggy days where you wouldn't want to wear rain gear anyway.

I can't speak to durability, since I've had it for four days, but it fits well. The pockets are generous but placed well, leaving room for a hip-belt (or harness, though I'm not a climber) and leaving the pockets accessible, but not the "Napoleon" pockets on some jackets, where you're crossing your body to access the contents. The chest and sleeve pockets are like that, of course, but not the main pockets, which are usable for hand-warming too.

I was very hesitant to spend over $300 on any jacket, but this will be a four-season jacket for me, from shoveling in -10 to skiing to hiking to rain-wear or around-town. This will be perfect for my next trips to Seattle and San Francisco, too.

Comments about Marmot Zion Jacket - Men's:

Great when shoveling my long driveway.Temperatures in the teens, windy, and snowing with just a short sleeve coolmax shirt,long-sleeved polypropylene top over that and the Zion Jacket and I stayed warm and dry. Normally I'd have to hang up the garments I wore under a gore-tex jacket to dry out once I finished shoveling, but not with this jacket. It's amazing how dry I've stayed even with heavy exertion. The gore-tex jacket also wasn't as warm as the Zion jacket. Looking forward to see how the jacket works while kayaking in the spring.

Comments about Marmot Zion Jacket - Men's:

I feel old and cynical when it comes to the latest claims for improved waterproof/breathable fabrics, but I thought Neoshell actually does offer a big improvement. I'd say it'll completely replace "Windstopper" products in that it's both noticeably more wind-proof, while feeling more breathable also.

I didn't wear it in the rain, but just using it to skin up a mountain I noticed the advantages of it having a really wide comfort range (and a well-designed hood helps a lot).

I didn't get a chance to try a size smaller than what I wore, so not sure if it's just my body, but I always wear a Size Large (except for with Marmot's Down parka's), but this Large felt odd--super long arms and baggy in odd places. (But I only noticed the odd-ish fit standing around, while active it moved well with my body).
