Comments about Keen Alamosa WP Hiking Shoes - Men's:
These are the best shoes I've ever owned. They do great here in the last frontier (Alaska) and I feel like I demand a lot out of them everyday.

I added insoles to help my high arch but the overall fit is very good. Used them through small streams while hiking through the Smoky Mountains and never got sweaty feet. I also wear these everyday for work and they are comfortable and don't cause my feet to sweat. Overall highly reccommended.

Have been wearing these as a more cushioned alternative to my Vibram Five Fingers. So far they are solid performers for everyday use and day hikes. Traction seems good and they have been waterproof so far in about 1.5" of water. Padding feels good and shoe feels very supportive.

Comments about Keen Alamosa WP Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I work in TV/Film, and pretty wear only hiking shoes when working because they're comfy, water resistant/proof, and offer some protection (next to wearing steel-toes).
The first pair I bought I wore just about every day for about 4 months straight (Yes, I know, not proper) and they are/were comfy. However one day I notice that the the heel part of the sole had a big crack in it. I am on my feet most of the day, but this isn't something that should happen. Brought them back to REI and got them replaced with the same pair, and so far so good.
May be just a bad pair, but they're really comfy and I would recommend them. And if they defect like mine did, bring them back.

Comments about Keen Alamosa WP Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I have owned 2 pair of the Keen Alamosa shoes. I love them but they seem to wear out in the heel. I have used them on many hikes with great success. My first pair lasted 6 months before the heel gave out and began to squeak, especially in wet conditions. The second pair lasted 4-5 months with the same results. Sadly, I will buy another pair unless I find a better lasting option.

Comments about Keen Alamosa WP Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I previously reviewed this after a 4000-ft. mountain climb and a 20-mile backpack trip (Rawah, CO). This is a follow-up report.
I wore the Alamosa's on a second 14-mile backpack/peak climb (Mt. Sopris, CO) and they performed very well. Traction was outstanding. My feet hurt no more or no less than with other shoes. So-called "ankle support" is not needed if your feet are sure, which these Alamosa's give you.
Then I began training for a descent into Grand Canyon by hiking down and up several steep canyons locally (2000 vertical drop). I was quite impressed with their fit and traction. (I used to wear 8½; now it's usually 9, as with Alamosa.)
Alas, two days before leaving for Grand Canyon, I noticed lumps under both forefeet. My right foot has a center bone that pushes down, so it was quite noticeable. I ended up returning them to REI, quite disappointed that the shoes I was breaking in for GC had failed in two months, but glad to learn BEFORE the trip.
I opted for the Keen Targhee II, which proved quite adequate even for a 45-pound pack going down into Grand Canyon (see Targhee II review).
After returning from GC, I tried on a new pair of Alamosa's, because I really did like their fit and traction. I could detect that same slight lump down the middle of the forefoot (under the ball), so I'm afraid I cannot wear them. :(
One other note: the picture shows a grayish color. It is not. It is a GREENISH dye! I call it "uncured concrete." Add a little dust, and it looks exactly like green concrete! It seems to be a popular color this year. Not my preference, however.

Comments about Keen Alamosa WP Hiking Shoes - Men's:
This is a very comfortable shoe and requires no break in. Wore it straight out of the box and it performed stellar on an 8 mile hike that weekend. My only complaint, which resulted in the 4 star rating, is that they definitely run small. Anticipating this I ordered a half size larger which fit the length of my foot perfectly, but was a bit too snug. Exchanged them for another half size larger and the fit is great, but a tad long in the toes. Still a very comfortable shoe and I would definitely recommend these to anyone in the market for a great camping shoe.

Comments about Keen Alamosa WP Hiking Shoes - Men's:
When you try out your first pair, be sure to try 1 or 2 sizes larger than what you would normally wear. My regular shoe size for all other shoes is a 12 - these feel great at a 14. You'll see this similar comment from just about all the other reviewers. Great shoe for wide feet and requires no break-in period. Went on a 10 mile trail and urban hike following day of purchase and had no problems at all. Held up well to the shallow stream crossings with no leakage. Excellent grip on rock and trail. Immediately realized this will be my shoe of choice for all my day-hiking needs. Also... I had tried another shoe, returned it, then tried this shoe but walked out with a shoe size too small (my fault - not the salemans) both times REI made returning the other shoes completely painless and that will keep me returning time after time to this Kennesaw GA store. The saleforce is very helpful and absolutely knowledgeable of their product and this really shows.

I bought these a few weeks ago and I wear them everyday. To be honest they're not as comfortable as the Voyagers I usually buy but they're are still very comfortable. I have not had a chance to test the water proof factor yet, but I live in northwest Oregon so I will have plenty of opportunitys this coming fall. I will right an update regarding durabilty and waterproof later
