by fromAttaches quickly, no wind noise I have had my TieRod for about 2 weeks and have attached my road bike to it at least 4 times. I drive a 1998 Subaru Forester and had no issues attaching it to my factory roof bars. The whole process took about 10 minutes, including adjusting the factory roof bar spacing. I've driven with the windows open and radio off from zero all the way up to 60 miles an hour with no noticeable noise coming from the bike mount. When a bike is on the mount, then there is some noise but that's coming from the bike, rather than the rack. My road bike goes on quickly and easily, and is held in place securely.

by fromFantastic on 2006 Subaru Outback Great product. Easy to install. Easy to mount bike. Great color choices, I have silver on my silver/gray wagon, super sweet. Very low profile and other than wind around bike, silent. I have a 2006 Subaru Outback wagon, fits well and is very stable. Need to be sure the front factory crossbar is as far forward as possible, in the small gap towards front of vehicle, in order for tailgate to open fully. Takes about 2 minutes to move, I didn't have star configuration driver that screw head has but found a slotted screw driver that fit in there perfectly and worked well. Only problem is tailgate will not open 100% with bike up there, very close but hits tire just short of fully open with my MTB mounted, not a big deal for me though. Definetly need 2 lock cores, one to lock cover so rack cannot be removed and one to lock skewer so bike cannot be removed. Only thing I am unsure of is the strap that ties down rear tire appears it could wear out but as long as they continue to sell replacement no problem and even then bungee cord etc. would work. None of this keeps me from giving it 5 stars as I have had hitch racks, roof racks and trunk mounts by many companies over the years this is the best I have used yet. So simple it is genuis. [...]

by fromWorth it 100% Perfect fit (Impreza 2011 3 inch factory bars) and the construction doesn't have me worried if my bike is going to fall off like other bike racks I've owned. Fits my road bikes (Giant Defy, Trek Madone) and my Mountain bike with disc brakes (Giant Trance X) with no issues what-so-ever!

by fromAwesome rack! Im glad I found this instead of going for the Thule or Yakima bike trays. It was easy to install, and really strong. Its so low profile that it creates no wind noise and doesnt really effect gas mileage. The locking cores are great to since on locks the tray down the the crossbars, and the other locks the fork. I could not be happier with this product, and will eventually buy a second!

by fromRock Solid Installed the TieRod on my 2005 Subaru Forester with factory rails. Easily clears rear hatch. Was easy to install and easy to use. Bought lock cores to secure the rack to rails and the bike to the rack. Love the quick-release mechanism, set and forget.

by fromTrimmed, now perfect I bought this knowing that it would be ~2" too long to miss my tailgate (RX 350), but was looking at the same issue with every roof rack that fit factory crossbars. No problem. Hacksaw + 10 minutes and it fits perfectly (tray still has plenty of room for the rear tire, which clears the tailgate just fine). As for the standard end of it, it was exceptionally easy to install, is very secure, looks great.

by fromFair solution for factory bars. Installation was fairly easy. I talked to the Rocky Mounts reps and they assured me I would be fine using it on factory bars (up to 2 bikes) on my 2007 Rav4 (but ended up purchasing through REI as I had dividends to burn). So far so good. Most of my concerns center around an issue that Rocky Mounts can't really be faulted for: clearance above the roof. The factory bars are so low that everything hits the roof, potentially damaging it. The strap for holding down the back wheel hits the roof, the pedals strike the roof (necessitating either strapping a bungy or something to the cranks, or removing the pedals), and the quick release close also smacks the roof. None of this is ideal. My second complaint, however definitely is something Rocky Mounts is responsible for. The quick release skewer needs to be loosened so much to actually fit the front drops into it that when the rack is empty, even when the skewer is closed, it flops around. A lot (I have a standard road bike). I don't particularly like flopping parts on my car, can't imagine it's good for drag/MPG, and most importantly as I mentioned it smacks the roof as it flops. This means you have to tighten it enough to keep it from flopping every time you're not carrying a bike. And then, of course, re-loosen when you want to put a bike on there. But, re-loosening isn't exactly easy as there are not markings on the skewer for how loose to go. That means, every time I want to mount a bike, I end up precariously balanced on a wheel well/open door, holding the bike on the roof with one hand while attempting to loosen the skewer enough to securely clamp the bike (I suppose I could fix this with some nail polish or a permanent marker. but still). All while hoping I don't drop the bike or fall damaging the car, the bike, or myself. I've been lucky enough to always do this on even ground, but I can't imagine attempting it on a hill. Needless to say, it's not at all easy to use. However, it is cheap, well constructed (if not designed), and looks great. I think if you do not plan on using it often, it is probably fine. If you plan on putting bikes on and off your car frequently, I would recommend spending a little more and going with Thule or Yakima.
