Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
We have factory roof crossbars on our Volvo XC90 and Land Rover LR3. After researching options, we selected Yakima FrontLoaders. With two mountain bikes - standard 26" wheel and 29er hardtail - they both fit effortlessly into their ingenious system. The packaging says "get ready for an out-of-box experience - this should not be understated as there was zero assembly required, just follow the simple instructions and you're good to go! We opted for the locking cylinders too which were a breeze to install - did just that in the parking lot of the REI Asheville after a 1-minute demo from the ever-helpful REI staff. Now our bikes are safe and mobile for long-haul trips from the coast to the mountains and back.

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
Installed on an Impreza with factory rack. Install was easy. I opted for lock cores, too. Bike carrier locks to rack, and cable lock attaches to bike. Easy peasy! I've had one for ~2 years, and got a 2nd last year. Love 'em!

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
+ I purchased this when it first came out. Yakima was great with the recall.
+ Similar construction style to the Forklift.
- The front is bulky. It cannot straddle a LowRider tower.
- It does not work too well with the fairing, as the knob hits the fairing.
- The lock doesn't retract fully to unlock and remove. I needed to remove the cover of the lock pin and on top of that, pry it aside to turn the knob
- Rear hoop is too short. Don't crank too hard on the knob, as the front tire will lift up, making it even more unstable.
- Cable lock needs to be longer for my MTB. I wrap the cable around the rear hoop, front tire & downtube to secure the bike.

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
I bought two of these as we were taking a trip to Arcadia National Park, and that requires a 14 hour drive. I was worried at first, as I have always used the simple front fork mount racks on my Forester, but for my wife's Impreza she wanted racks that made it so she did't have to remove her front wheel(disc brakes). We had our two bikes up there for first test 725 miles...speeds exceeding...well lets just say pretty fast. Through a rain storm, high winds, it stayed solid and then 725 miles back. Her car has the oem aero bars which flex alittle with bikes up there when the wind gusts...but I am amazed. It installs in under a minute...the bike goes on in under 30 seconds and removes the same. Only one issue...and it has more about the users height...I am 5'5", so to put the bike up you have to lift it by the rear triangle and front fork to make it. If you are short and or your vehicle is tall, you might need a step stool.

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
Product works fantastic just as advertised. It's kind of weird having a 29" bike on your roof with the front tire but you get used it. Pretty sturdy.
Locks are NOT included I thought it did. Very high quality. I'll be getting a second one in the near future.

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
like better than high roller way easier to put on and take off one less lock needed and does not have quick release button in middle of tighting knob witch failed on my high roller. called yakima and asked for a sproket rocket insted of high roller got that and some replacment pegs for farring with in a week. bike has a little bit of side to side action when going over bumps. caused by flex in unit and rubber bike tires the only contact points. big mtb tires = big wobble. a little jerk on streering wheel and most tailgaters back off. i switch to a sproket rocket for long trips on a highway. the unit i have now is a replacment for recalled model i had new unit in three days no hassles yakima customer service is good stuff.

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
I have a carbon frame and didn't want a rack that clamped to the down tube. This rack secures the bike by the front tire and straps through the rear rim. Really nice. I've used Yakima products for 30 years and have always been satisfied with them and their service.

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
I installed this rack on a homemade trailer. Very easy to install, and works like its suppose to. Im always worried about my bike comming lose so I also use straps. Have had no issues with this bike rack. Adjustment for tire size also work very well.

Comments about Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount:
The version that I had was recalled for a product defect that it would not actually hold the bike. Don't even get me started on being notified (or not in this case) about the recall... My bike came out of the rack at 70 mph on the New Jersey Turnpike and, except for the rear plastic strap, would have become a lethal projectile. It damaged the car though the bike somehow was only minimally dinged up. 7 months later I am STILL fighting with Yakima over getting the repairs covered. Their customer service leaves much to be desired.
I have had car racks, on and off, for 20 years. Never lost a bike before. Just saying...
