I bought the Olly basically because it was on clearance at the online REI outlet. I have been pleasantly surprised by the pack so far. Most reviews on other packs that I've read mentioned issues about straps coming loose or the pack slipping around on the dog, my friends have the REI packs for their dogs and it seems they always have issues with the packs slipping from one side to the other, despite even balance on both pockets. I have had no problems what so ever with the Olly pack. Huge pockets to store all my hounds goods in(plus a bit of mine), I haven't seen any schaffing from the straps, even on the more grueling longer trips, and despite his awkward size the pack fits great. I have a greyhound and his big boney body and short hair is not the most gear friendly. Good stuff.

This pack is extremely difficult to adjust to size. The top strap buckles are hidden under straps designed to protect the buckles and prevent them from snagging. Unfortunately you cannot adjust the top straps without pulling the buckle out, making it impossible to tighten the top straps as much as I would like. I ended up cutting the protective buckle covers off to improve access. Otherwise, construction seems sturdy, the pack has seen short but aggressive use by my Labrador pup, and it is holding up well so far.

Bought this pack over a year ago for my young white german shepard. I used this as a training tool, but it's great when you go for long walks to help wear them out. I have used this on campouts for my dog to carry his water and other items. It seems to be comfortable, but my dog cannot express that. The fit is just right, easy to size, get on and get off. It's very sturdy and still looks like new. I would recommend this to anyone.

We went hiking today and it worked - plain and simple. i can't speak to the comfort but the straps adjust easily and the pack stayed on my dog the whole time. I didn't appear like he was in discomfort even with all of the water bottles I stuffed in it to slow him down. great purchase.

I bought this pack last fall for our dog (Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab mix)after my husband and I hauled all of our gear around in a waist pack while hiking on a camping trip last year. Our dog is very high energy and it takes a lot to wear her out so we thought that this would be a good "job" for her to have. We practiced on walks around the neighborhood with the pockets filled with cans just to get her used to it so when we next go for a hike, she knows the drill. So far, no issues.

We did buy the large size as her weight fell within the criteria but I have the stomach strap cinched down almost to the end meaning she could go in a medium size (!! she's 85 pounds!). Obviously that depends on your dog and how big their girth is.

this pack does sit higher up on the dog's body than I expected it to. The packs sit almost at their shoulders which surprised me. We will probably upgrade to a more expensive and better constructed pack when this one eventually bites the dust but we didn't to invest a lot of money right away in the event that our dog did a bucking bronco impression as soon as we put it on her.

I think this is a great introductory pack for large dogs.

How does this pack get 4/5 stars?

Before I break this down please note:
-I have own 2 other packs before this one
-Purchase this one because it was on clearance on REI
-used so far on three 10 mile hikes

Lets break it down why this product is a waste of money:

1. straps that loosen up easily, have to tie a knot to make sure the pack does not get loose on trails.
2. take a look how the bag sits on the dog, it does not conform to the dogs body, it is cheaply made. compare it to the rei bag that has 3 straps that are angled better.
3. top pad is cheap and loosens as well.
4. bags simple, do not have extra compartments like other bags nor are the zippers lined/water proofed

overall this bag looks great, however does not sit well on dogs nor designed to fit accurately. look at other dog bags and you will see the chest strap connect down the body of the dog for a more secure fit and comfort.
