      I'm a former bike messenger, current bike commuter and occasional pedicab rider (with a trailer-style pedicab). I plan to do some touring and S240 rides soon.

      I can tick a few of the boxes in the "describe yourself" pane above, but it only allows one.

      For years I rode with Shimano SPD pedals and Sidi Dominator or other brand shoes, but I've been leaning more toward "practical" recently. I decided to return to my BMX roots, in a way, with flat Shimano DX-style pedals.

      I had some other pedals in mind but I saw these in a local Austin REI while looking at full fenders and thought they were perfect, especially for the price.

      I don't get the comments about these being "heavy," they weigh what platform pedals weigh. Besides, weight doesn't matter. Compared to the typical clipless pedal, they're heavier, but compared to other platform pedals of the same design, they're about the same.

      OK, this is really about how they ride, which is well. They ride well. For the inaugural ride, I wore a pair of lightweight, high quality hiking boots and went to the large municipal park next to where I live.

      The pedals rode like ... well, pedals. My shoes got wet in a creek crossing I decided port the bike though (it's rocky, slick, uneven and is oddly difficult, especially with the uneven and oddly steep opposite bank). Wearing hiking boots kept the creek water out, until that one deep step, and made porting up the hill exponentially easier.

      When I started pedaling again, my feet slipped around a little, but that's to be expected with the lugged sole and everything being wet. However, it wasn't unstable and it wasn't uncomfortable.

      Everything dried out pretty quickly and the ride was solid and grippy again. I can't wait to try these out with different shoes.

      Some negatives:

      The pins aren't replaceable, but they seem to be steel and I imagine they'll last a long time.

      The bearings seem either too tight or like they skimped on grease. I've repacked pedal bearings a million times over the years so it's no big deal to do it one more time. Sometimes even high-end pedals and hubs need some service right out of the box.

      I generally prefer cartridge bearings, but for the price of these pedals, one can't complain much.

        I am newer to off-road cycling than road cycling. I tried clipless pedals, but fell a lot with my feet in the clips, causing injuries. These pedals allow me to ride off-road but will get off the pedals when I'm about to fall over, making it safer for me. I like the prongs that stick up to keep my foot solid on the pedals in tough terrain.

          These pedals have replaced my previous platforms with Power Grips. I initially went looking for a temporary replacement to be used in rain and colder weather when the Power Grip straps wouldn't accommodate larger shoes. I was pleasantly surprised with the grip and nonslip aspects of this pedal, and don't think I'll bother to switch back.

          The construction is solid (I recently took a pride-damaging fall in the rain, and they made it through with only minor scratches) and I am confident they'll last a long time.

          If you are a serious mountain biker and will be hell on the pins, consider the Crank Brothers 5050; for the rest of us these pedals will do just fine.

              I got rid of my clipless pedals after 3 years of use. I enjoy grabbing my helmet and going for a ride without having to wear special shoes. These pedals are great for commuting no foot slippage in the rain or on rough terrain.

              I've been using these on my Novara Buzz for a while now and got in a wreck last week. I loved the pedals, up until the point when I noticed the deep, index finger-wide gash on my shin that was bleeding profusely; caused by the spikes of my pedal gouging out my flesh. The same spikes have never allowed my feet to slip off the pedals though. LOL!

              Very stable, with great traction to hold your foot in place, but easy to bail out when you need to. They're also cheap so though you cant replace the pins (which are very durable) you can just replace the pedals.
