Better than a CamelBak!
Perfect bladder. The wide-mouth opening makes it easier to fill at a tap or in shallow water if you're using it for a dirty bag. The seal is water-tight and after much abuse I've had no issues with leaking. I've dropped it and sat on it and no problems. The detachable hose makes re-filling much easier going in and out of your pack. The rigid structure helps it to actually fully dry out for storage so no mold worries. And it inverts. Comes in different sizes for your custom set. The drink valve is easy to use with one hand or just your teeth. Just make sure to close it if you're dumb enough to nap on it like I was! Great product for the price.
Great reservoir
Great reservoir, very easy to clean and get completely dry. This is probably the best feature over other reservoirs I've owned. One thing worth noting that I didn't see come up is that the bladder only holds 1.5L when the baffle is zipped. When it is unzipped it holds 2L but the shape is much less convenient, it gets very wide and doesn't pack well in a sleeve in a backpack. It's not a big issue, but if I knew how much smaller it would be with the baffle zipped I may have opted for the 3L version.
terrible design
Very disappointed. Years ago, I had their original hydrpak model and i loved it. When it came time to replace it, i again chose hydrapak - what a mistake. The top flap is too thick to fit properly between the plastic slider. Its almost impossible to remove the slider and open it back up. I emailed hydrapak and they said this is common problem that can be fixed by applying food grade lubricant (chap stick) to the slider area. I told them i was disappointed because this is brand new and clearly seems to be a product defect. They wouldn't agree to take responsibility and replace the unit. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone. My buddy also has one, and it leaks.
Still Looking for a Hydration Pack
This is my first water reservoir. I bought this for hiking and music festivals. I really like the baffle that distributes the water in a flat surface making it easy to carry and feels great in my REI backpack. The mouthpiece valve works great and I like the way the tube connects to the pack. It is also easy to clean! I found the bar hard to slide on and off with one hand making it especially awkward to close after filling. Also without having the bar connected to the pack it is challenging to close. You have to set the bar down somewhere, not convenient at music festivals or hikes. So I will be returning.
Great 2L Reservoir
Easy to clean. And it does hold 2 liters, but you have to unzip the internal baffle to get the full 2 liters - see the Hydrapak web page for how to do this. I usually keep the baffle zipped to minimize sloshing.
Nice reservoir but NOT 2 liters
I love the design of this reservoir, but was skeptical about it holding 2 liters when I took it out of the box because it's tiny! So, I decided to try filling it up with a measuring cup. Turns out it only holds about 1.5 liters. I could understand if it was a little off, but this is a huge difference from what is advertised. Otherwise it seems like a great reservoir, so I think I'll see if the 3 liter one fits in my pack.
Disappointed
I needed a bladder for an old Camelbak cycling pack. The current Camelbak bladders no longer fit the older holder, but the 2 liter Hydrapak does. I like the ability to reverse the bladder to let it dry or put it in the dishwasher. It does not leak. I like the bite valve. But the slide-on closer only works from one direction and not only do the instructions fail to note this, the direction indicated on the bladder is not the one that allows me to easily close the bladder. Also, I have not been able to figure out how to lock the shape shift baffle.
High quality, great features
This reservoir fits perfectly in my Ultimate Direction SJ 2.0 hydration pack. The bite valve flows nicely and I absolutely love the magnetic clip. Quality seems to be high and cleaning is easy. Great product!
What did I ever do without this.
I always relied on bottled water and a fannie pack when I went hiking. When I bought my Trail 40 backpack the sales person pointed out the reservoir compartment for hydration. Intrigued by this option I bought the Hydrapak 2L Reversible reservoir. Here is my review as a first-time user. I too thought the capacity was low but then found the baffle was releasable and this increased the capacity to the full rated volume. I'm quite happy leaving the baffle in place and the 1.6L capacity ample for my needs. I do like knowing that more capacity is available though. This was also my first exposure to a bite valve. I was skeptical at first but came to like it very much. Instead of stopping to grab my canteen or drink bottle and trying to drink on the go, I just pick up the tube and take a sip. I found that by the end of the day I felt much better. I attribute this to having sipped water all day instead of gulping water at rest stops. I was also very pleased/surprised with the flow rate through the bite-valve. The shut off on the bite valve is great. Especially after I placed my pack on a chair and it proceeded to leak onyo the floor. Now I turn it off when storing. The fold-over clamp opening was another feature that I liked since it allowed me to add a little ice to my pack so I could drink cool water. Those were the pros, now for the coins. I did notice a slight funk in the taste of the water when the water started getting warm but there was no sickening plastic taste like I've read about some other bladders. Their website has tips for getting rid of the taste but I haven't tried them yet. I picked this one for its being BPA free but also PVC free. Reversing the bladder for cleaning is a great idea but you have to wrestle with the bladder baffle attachment a little too hard for my liking. I hope it loosens up some with use. Their website shows how to open and close the baffle but I have not had any luck with their method. I am a new convert, and staunch supporter of hydration bladders. So much so that I just bought my wife a hydration fannie pack. All in all I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this to anyone interested in exploring hydration packs.
Just OK
I bought this last summer and immediately used it on two overnight trips. I didn't find it to have any weird taste, which is always a plus. And it worked great... for a bit. However, I then took it out on a week-long backpacking trip and encountered two major flaws almost immediately, so I had many miles to obsess over how annoying these flaws are. First, I immediately broke the plastic thing that connects the sliding piece to the bag itself because I pulled the reservoir out of my pack without unclipping it from my pack. This is totally my fault but I wasn't yanking the thing around, so it's a bit frustrating. Secondly, I immediately chewed through bite piece, so I now need a new one because I have to stop to open the valve, otherwise water just sprays out everywhere. I don't think this one is as much my fault, because one needs to bite to drink water. I will be gentler with the new piece. Overall, just OK - I prefer the Camelback I had in the past.
