    Casio ProTrek PRW3000-1A Multifunction Watchis rated3.5out of5by2.
Rated5out of5byfromGreat overall watchI bought a PRW 2500. I was excited about the functionality of the product but the size was a bit too much for me. I was wanting to use as a normal watch at times and my initial feeling was I would mainly have used that my outdoor adventures. That night I saw this version of the ProTrek watch and read about the smaller sensor sizes. I returned the 2500 and purchased the 3000 based solely on pictures and reviews. I am really glad that I did. Going from the 2500 to the 3000 the size difference is very noticeable. The watch is much smaller all the way around than Casio's other entries in this category. It may actually be too small for those people used to larger watches. The watch is actually quite stylish that will look good while dressing up. Everything about the watch is great. The only 2 areas where the watch could have performed better was in the display and temperature. The negative display in my opinion is great and only becomes any kind of hindrance when you are indoors in a dimly lit area. But they LED light is really good so this eradicates most of the complaint. The other is the thermometer is not quite accurate while on wrist. This has been a complain of some of past watches as well and I guess does make sense sense the sensor is so close to your warm skin. But take the watch off for 2 minutes and the reading is pretty much dead on. Other than t that the watch outperforms my expectations. The layout, ease of use, accuracy is phenomenal . Plus the watch is much more stylish than the pictures let on which is a much added bonus.

Rated2out of5byfromNewest Casio Pro Trek is short of the markAs a US military Special Operations member and Boy Scout troop assistant scoutmaster I have owned and used Casio altimeter watches for nearly 15 years. I was anxious to see the more advanced chip in this watch (more accurate altimeter; more frequent readings) finally incorporated into a smaller, thinner case. This SHOULD be the ultimate land navigation, solar powered, atomic-clock-calibrated adventure watch. There is one problem: THE SCREEN IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO READ. Don't get me wrong about the wealth of technology in the new Pro Trek. There is so much to love about this watch from being able to adjust the length of time the auto illumination feature runs to a wealth of features that accurately predict sun rise and sun set in your time zone AND LATITUDE but it's all useless if the feint grey lettering can't be read off a black background. I get the marketing angle. It's supposed to look "tacti-cool" with the subdued coloring but unless you are using it at night, when it can actually be read easily with the watch's illumination feature, you will be squinting to read your altitude, trip duration, compass bearing or time of day. Forget any hope of reading the watch in bright light if you are over 35 and ever use reading glasses. Hopefully the black letter on white background model available in other parts of the world comes to REI soon. I'd buy that in a heart beat and be happy with it for work and leading the Scout Troop through the Sierras or Philmont.
