Comments about Kelty Little Flower 20 Sleeping Bag - Kids' - 2012 Closeout:
I purchased two of these for my two girls ages 9 and 5. They are said to be for someone up to 64". However, I am 62.5" tall and my feet touch the bottom when I lie in it. I realize that less dead air space is good for heat, but I like a bit of room to wiggle around and rotate inside the bag. While I agree that all the spec. measurements are accurate, it was simply surprising in person to realize how narrow the shoulder width was. My 9 year-old loves it and says she feels quite comfortable, but it doesn't appear that she can rotate inside the bag without bringing the bag with her. If I had more money to spend, I definitely would return this and get an woman's bag for my 9 year-old who is 54" tall. It is clear this will only last her a few years.
That said, I knew what I was getting, and it was a great deal on a special sale day at REIOutlet.com, so I am quite happy.
The zippers are top notch and there is a thick swatch of material on either side of the zipper interior to help prevent the zipper getting stuck, or perhaps it is to prevent heat leaking, but it is great to prevent holes when my kids get the zipper somewhat snagged and jerk on it. There is a zipper hold at either end so that you can zip it open or closed from the top or bottom, if you like to let air in/out at your feet. It completely unzips to lay flat like a blanket. At first I was worried that my five year-old had broken the zipper within five minutes of opening the package, but then I realized that she had just pulled the zipper off the bottom incorrectly, much like when she zips her winter coat by herself.
The stuff sack is long, but it is fine for car camping. The handles on either side can be held together in one's hand like a bag or put over the kids' shoulders like a backpack. I wasn't super impressed with the thin material of the stuff sack or the thin cinch straps sewn into it used to tighten and compress the sleeping bag contents. They seem a bit flimsy to me. Since I have only just inspected these but haven't put them to the test, I can't speak as to whether my initial impression is accurate.
I can't speak to the temp. rating, as we have only tested these out at home so far. Both girls had to get down to their skivvies and unzip the whole bag because they were so hot using them in the house.
As of now, the image on the website is not an exact match. There is no small zipper pocket on the exterior, right of the bag as the image shows, and the stuff sack is grey rather than black.
Service and delivery comments:
I always ship to the store for free. I walk in, get served immediately at the counter, they run to the back, and walk out with my goods. Totally worth the trip for free shipping, in my opinion. That is probably because my store is in the 'burbs with free parking.
