The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by hdtravelfromAmazing Product !This is just the coolest gadget. It gives you crystal clear voice communications almost worldwide. So amazing to be able to place calls from the middle of nowhere. Really helps to give you and your loved ones peace of mind when you travel. So much better than the messenger devices that only allow short messages. Now you can actually call and check in or get help whenever or wherever you need it. It is compact, simple, and easy to use and just gets the job done. I take it on all my trips wherever I go. Highly recommended !

by hdtravelfromA Real Lifesaver !This is just a must have device for the global traveler and adventurer.
Easy to use, good voice quality, excellent coverage over much of the world.
I bought this to take on a 3 week trip trip across Russia and Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Express and it worked great to keep in touch with home and to make some travel arrangements with on the go. This device just really provides a great degree of safety and peace of mind. If you are a global traveler or enjoy outdoor pursuits I would not leave home without one. Much of the world does not have any cell phone coverage including many areas of the USA and with this phone you will never be out of touch or be able to dial 911 for help.
I highly recommend this gadget.

by Allen GfromVery Poor QualityWithout going into history of their defective satellites, I had maintained a Globalstar (SPOT) phone for years in case the service improved. They just finished their "second generation" network and their phones are still virtually unusable. You get connected, then the call drops. Maybe after 4 or 5 times you'll be able to get a call to last for more than a minute or so. Bottom line: extremely unreliable and expensive. Finally gave up and nixed the service.

by rocks and dirtfromPhone works - Service is a scamI bought this satellite phone for use in the summertime during remote field research in Alaska. It got great service, even on the north side of Denali where a significant portion of the southern sky was blocked by the mountain.
However, you need to be prepared to approach using this as if you're signing a cell phone contract. Despite having "monthly" and "annual" service plans, and the "monthly" plans would seem like a logical choice for someone looking to use the phones for a limited time each year - you need to be prepared to pay that "monthly" fee for every month for an entire year. Apparently the plan goes month-to-month after that, and it's not clear if once you go month-to-month and stop service, if you'll have to sign another annual contract. Mostly likely you will. Because that'd be a great scam.
Classic case of let the buyer beware. Because the phone works well, I can't give it one star, but it can't get more than two because this emergency product is misleading/obfuscatory in their service plans.

by janodesfromDON'T BET YOUR LIFE ON IT!This "Spot" satphone is just a rebadged Globalstar phone using their satelite network which is plagued with trouble and full of misleading promises of dependable service. The Spot communicators do run off the same satelites but on a different frequency that make it more dependable, so just because your Spot messenger works don't count on this getting a signal. Another reviewer commented on it working well in Alaska which it did for me also. My guess is that customer base is what keeps Globalstar going so all their "birds" concentrate on that area. Their billing department seems inept and is always making billing errors in their favor and has to be contacted repeatedly to correct. If you want a dependable satphone look at the competition.
The phone is twice as expensive but works anywhere and I've only had to wait briefly a few time to get a strong lasting signal. Also they are prepaid phone cards that last up to a year.

by Utah Outdoor GuyfromClose, but no cigarI took the Spot Sat phone on a backpacking trip in the High Uinta Mountain Range in Utah this week. I tried to use the phone daily for coordinating calls and calls home with mixed results.
When the phone would connect and get a call through, the call quality was excellent. However, most of the time, I was not able to get a strong enough signal to get a call through.
At one point, I hiked to the top of a 12,500 peak with a clear view of the sky for 360 degrees and I still was not able to get a call off. Ironically, my buddy got a call off with his Verizon Android phone, and I eventually got enough AT&T signal to get a call off on my iPhone.
When my AT&T iPhone works at the top of a peak and my sat phone fails, it makes me think something is very wrong with this product. Now I find myself wishing I wasn't locked into a 1 year service plan...
