    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Haven't taken them off I bought these with my dividend after reading about them in Backpacker's gear guide. Free money what the hay! I haven't taken them off. Super comfy and super light. The toe box is roomy and the heel hugs you in a good way. Haven't been this happy with boots in a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them I've been hiking in minimalist shoes for a couple seasons, but after some research, decided I needed more support in order to carry a multi-night backpack. While these are not true "minimalist" boots, they don't have the massive heel shank of most boots, and I think the added cushion is appreciated for longer trips with the extra weight. I've put about 40 miles on them so far with a >25# pack, and couldn't be happier. The tread is holding up nicely, and there are no signs of unraveling stitches, or glued pieces coming loose.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unstable for Me I really wanted to like this boot and ordered both it and the Zamberlan Crosser. The Reston has an unusual "cupped" sole that is very narrow under the arch that felt inherently unstable. In addition, the traction on this boot is much more like a trail runner than a hiker. Fit was great and if you have low volume feet this should be a boot you try on. However, it is not as nicely made as the Zamberlan and costs $20 more. I ended up keeping the Crosser and gave it 5 stars and sent this one back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice but I wish they came in wide width! I love Asolo boots and have several pairs for different terrains and types of hikes but their shoes don't come in a wide width, which is a bummer because these would have been perfect. The shoes felt very comfortable and flexible but just too narrow which is the only complaint I have. If they were available in wide, I would have kept them but alas they have been returned. If you have a normal "medium" foot, then these may be good for you. While they are very soft and flexible, you can feel everything under your feet so I don't think they would be good for rocky trails, especially with a pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but slippery So far they're very nice boots. I've only just broken them in; got them 3 weeks ago. They are causing the back my heel/ankle a little pain, but I feel like that's a matter of everyone's feet being different...I think they'll just hurt my heel a bit until they're completely broken in. It's just that spot you get blisters on the back of your heel when backpacking. Not all boots do this to me...these are. But maybe I've just got an ankle bone that likes other brands/fits of boots better. This is my first pair of Asolos. They are very light, but still have good support, and are goretex. Exactly what I was looking for. I like to backpack in light hiking shoes. But you can't step through small streams in shoes, and there's no ankle protection. So these are a good compromise. I also needed a pair of boots for around town and on the local trails all winter, which were waterproof. So we'll see how they do on snowy trails. They are supportive, surprisingly supportive for how light they are. I like them. You'll probaby want to add some padding to the bottom/heel. There's not much padding in the foot bed. My only issue so far is that the tread is very hard. So it's not very grippy. It's raining today, and walking on a wet sidewalk in these boots is like walking on a sheet of ice. Not exaggerating at all. The temp is almost 40 today, but I could swear my sidewalk had black ice on it. I seriously almost fell. I'm assuming they'll act the same on fairly smooth, wet rock on the trail. So that's something to watch out for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phase I Phase I is fit. I've never, ever felt a glove fitting boot like this. If you have long, narrow, low-volume feet, these fit like a comfortable climbing shoe, but provide the over-all support of a boot. For power mountaineering, I suggest 2 sizes larger than a street/tennis shoe. That still provides amazing fit, yet guarantees power romps down hill will never affect your toes. I know, right? That description sounds impossible, but I'm ordering a second pair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, light waterproof hiker I am a study abroad coordinator and professor that spends most of the year in southern and central Mexico at high altitudes with regular spring/fall weather. I spend a number of weeks in rural environments with a mix of heavy rain, mud, and rugged ankle-spraining terrain. But I also spend a good amount of time in cities. This boot is the perfect hybrid for someone that isn't doing daily hiking, but still wants the support and waterproof qualities of a hiker without the bulk or stiffness. The only drawback is that I've noticed it is a little slippery on sidewalks that aren't textured, but that's not a surprise (very few shoes would be). Overall, I've only had them for about 3 weeks and am already impressed.
