by NoviceKayakerfromgreat kayak for the right personThis is a very good kayak, but has some characteristics that may be disadvantageous for certain people. As clearly stated in the product description, being a more experienced kayaker helps; the sleek design makes this kayak just glide over the water, but also puts a real premium on balance in the cockpit.
I'm 6'2", and the cockpit is pretty cramped for me; almost impossible to get in when the thighbraces are in place, and without the thighbraces its hard to use your body to balance. Finally, the backrest leaves much to be desired; it supports the lower back, but just barely.
Overall, I think this is a great kayak for a relatively experienced kayaker under 6'.

by seakayaktxfromGood IdeaActually a rudder and a skeg on a 16' or longer kayak is a very good idea. Rudders and skegs perform very different functions. Rudders allow you to turn in a very short distance in a river current or the surf. A skeg helps your boat to track well even in moderate winds. I wouldn't recomend using both at once but for someone looking for a very versatile boat this might be just the thing.
