Comments about Osprey Raptor 18 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz. - 2012 Closeout:

I got this pack on clearance for long all day mountain bike rides. My smaller hydration pack just couldn't manage all the fuel/clothes/etc I need. I actually haven't made it out on one of those rides yet, but I'm convinced the pack will work extremely well for my intended use. Only disappointment is while hiking with it I rubbed up against a rock, and there is now a very small hole in the pack. So fabric is a little weak. Not too worried, it is a really small hole, REI backs their products, and Osprey warranties for life. So if it gets bigger I'm covered. But still really surprised that happened.

Comments about Osprey Raptor 18 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz. - 2012 Closeout:

There are so many great things about this pack, such as the narrow width for comfortable arm movements during cycling. Lots of pockets for tools and gear, GREAT!! Nice color selections from bright and out there to more toned down colors like the grey. I also have the 14 in red, what an awesome color!! The only down side for me is the small hip pockets, with no way to keep them closed. This is a big flaw as equipment is not cheap to replace and items slip out easily. Adding a zipper or Velcro would have been the answer. I really do love this pack for commuting to work on my bike, it holds all my essential bike gear as well as needed work supplies like music and speakers! I don't use the hip belt at all so it also poses a problem for use of hip pockets. This is a really nicely made pack from quality rip stop nylon. The extra open pocket is great for a jacket or shirt but probably wouldn't store and other gear for fear of it slipping out. I would have liked if they just would have expanded the size of one of the zippered pockets, to get from the 14 up to the 18, but that is just an opinion. It really depends on your use of the pack. I'm happy with the purchase and use this one for work and the smaller 14 for cycling. Not a very good pack for hiking in my opinion. Again depends on how you use it and how much gear you take with you. It is an awesome pack for cycling and commuting. Highly recommend it for that use. I have not used the bladder yet so not sure on the leaking complaints others have made. I do hear the swapping out the cool mouth piece with a different bladder solves many leak issues. I purchased both on sale off season which helped take the bite out of my pocket book.

I bought this for the size and that the specs state it's below 2 lbs - 1 lb. 13 oz. / 1 lb. 15 oz. It clearly states on the tag that the weight is 2 lb. 8oz, and it feels like it. While the magnet holder for the mouth piece is a cool feature it also forces the tube to stick out in front of you. This is just going to snag if you are near any branches or bushes. I would rather have it next to by body. Same with the hip belt straps, once you tighten then down there are two large loops ready to snag anything waist high, no option to streamline them. This is what you get for ordering online without trying checking it out.

This pack is great. The size is perfect and the compression straps hold it tight to your body if you don't need the extra size and just want to use it for holding water. The pockets on the inside are mountain bike specific (long pockets for pump, etc.) I got it for a snowboarding trip and plan to use it for several mountain biking trips. I'm 6'3, 215 lbs and it fits well. I got the medium/large size and it has lots of extra room in the hip strap (I wear 34-36 size pants). One small but great feature is the magnetic clip on the sternum strap for the water mouthpiece. Great value. I would recommend it.
