Built to go beyond where normal bikes can go, the Surly Moonlander bike takes the fat-tire mantra up a notch with ginormous 4.7 in. wide tires for tackling next-level terrain.

  • Bringing the bigness, the massive 4.7 in. tires deliver ground contact and better traction, especially when run at low pressures, allowing the tires to roll over stuff
  • TIG-welded frame is made of sturdy 4130 chromoly steel with double-butted tubing in the main triangle for strength
  • Fork uses 135mm hub spacing—same as the rear hub—so you can have a front wheel with a full gear cluster or single cog and swap the front and rear wheels in a bind
  • Surly MWOD double cranks are matched up with Shimano derailleurs and Microshift shifters to create a smooth, easily shiftable 18-gear drivetrain (even with gloves on!)
  • Horizontal dropouts with a derailleur hanger mean you can run the Moonlander as-is, or go to an internally geared hub, fixie or single-speed later on
  • Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes facilitate controlled deceleration and sure stopping power in mixed conditions
  • 100mm wide Surly Clown Shoe rims are wrapped with 4.7 in. Surly Big Fat Larry tires, which have 120 tpi casings for lighter rolling weight and enhanced terrain conformation
  • Also includes 2 water bottle mounts and continuous brake/shift housing to protect cables in harsh conditions
  • The Moonlander also has rack and fender eyelets (rack and fenders not included—please note: rack and fenders will need to accommodate oversize tires)

All bicycles sold at REI include a free warranty tune-up. New bikes go through a normal break-in period, after which readjustment is important for longevity and performance. Bring your new bike in to your local REI for its free tune-up within 20 hours of use or 6 months from purchase, whichever comes first.
