I am a side sleeper and my old self-inflating pad was too thin to cushion my hips and shoulders. It was also relatively large and heavy. This pad is definitely packable and provides adequate cushion and comfort. I also like it because it is 3" wider than the typical 20" pad. And it is priced way better than comparable pads. Be aware that it is not insulated at all. One night at 45 degrees I found that the pad was quite cold for about an hour until my body warmed up the air inside. They do make an insulated version however, so if you are a cold sleeper or you camp during the winter, buy that one. Also, the material is easy to slide around on, so I use it with a top sheet.
This is a great pad and comfortable. I have a back thats not fond of the ground. However, this pad inflates in about 15 breaths and provides the comfort and support needed to keep moving the next day. Its great on the ground. On a cot is does slip around a little bit especially when its 98 degree and 100% humidity. Its also pretty noisy when on a cot. Since I dont get that luxury very often its pretty perfect on the ground. As another said, it roles up about the side a little larger than a soda can. The bag is adequate to fit the mat. Its not one of those bags that once you take out the mat you cant fit the mat back in. Packs up easy and takes up little to no room. Super lite. Highly recommend for anyone desiring comfort without the bulk and weight.
This is a great pad that I have only had great experiences with. It is very comfortable and is wider than most "regular" sized pads which is nice. I was very easy to blow up and use and then quick to deflate and packs easily into the provided stuff sack. I have used this pad in various conditions in all 3 seasons by itself and it is very comfortable and warm. I have used this a handful of times in the winter and paired it with a closed cell foam pad under it and it was great. (This is my standard practice for most of my winter camping needs). I am a local scout leader and my boys have been so impressed with its pack size and sweet look they have all gone out and bought one. Highly recommend.
This sleeping mat packs down remarkably well. Over the years, I had gotten used to sleeping mats being a bulky roll strapped to the side of my backpack, but the static V changed that for me. I also like that the design kind of perks up at the edges because it helps it stay centred when used in a hammock. My only gripe is that the air valve is just pull/push to open and close, which has caused a few unintended deflation’s in the middle of the night. A secondary improvement over a porous foam mat is that it doesn’t absorb water, which is important here on Vancouver island! Overall I’ve been really happy with my static V.
I have had the Klymit Static V for 6 or 7 years and used it on many bicycle tours, kayak trip, and backpacking. An off handed guess is 150 nights. No leaks, always made it through the night inflated. Used it on a few winter trips but when below freezing i also carry an old fashion 3/8" ( 10mm ) Ensolite pad and put it on top of the Klymit. In extreme cold, I put the closed cell pad on top of the Klymit and slide both inside a thin fleece.sleeping bag. Comfortable to -10f ( -23 c ). The pack size of the Static V is just about as good as it gets for bike touring or packing in a solo kayak.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After more than a decade of use, my old Static V started to leak at the welds. It was done. I had gotten so much use out of it during those 10+ years and it performed exceptionally well the entire time, always making the rocky bumpy ground comfortable. It's such a huge step up in terms of comfort compared to a foam mat. Yes, it takes longer to setup and break down but the improvement in comfort and sleep quality more than makes up for that. I will continue recommending the Static V to my friends and family. I decided to check if the failure would be covered by the warranty and they said yes, in fact it was eligible for a free replacement! I was blown away. Well done Gathr / Klymit!
I've been backpacking for decades, and at 50 years old, I have decided that I can no longer tolerate a night of trying to sleep with only a thin, self-inflating pad to shield me from the inherent hardness of the ground. It was time for an upgrade. This sleeping pad is amazingly comfortable for its small size and weight. Exactly what I was looking for, and I got exactly what I suspected. Combing this inflatable pad with a hi-quality backpacking pillow is giving me the most comfortable nights I've ever experienced whilst backpacking in the wilderness.
Picked this pad up and took it out on a short overnighter backpacking trip. I used this pad on top of a $19 thermarest foam pad and I was actually supprisingly warm. Reading reviews I was worried about getting cold. It got down to 26 degrees that night and we were on the confluence of two rivers, so there was ALOT of moisture in the air. Using it on top of the foam pad in a cheap 20 degree sleeping bag did a great job. Extremely comfortable, cant say enough good things about this pad. At a great price too!
I bought two of these for my wife and I to use during the 2013 RAGBRAI bicycle tour across Iowa. The pads deflate and roll to sub-water-bottle size, which is very convenient. The V-shaped baffles offered a very comfortable sleeping surface, and one of adequate size. For summer camping, I considered this pad to be perfect.
Upgraded from a thinner pad, and so far I like it. Pretty comfortable, lightweight, and it packs down to the size of a 1-liter Nalgene bottle. Haven't gotten the chance to use it in any cold weather yet, but based on the fact that it's uninsulated, I'm guessing it isn't as well suited for stuff like that. Compared to my last pad, it takes some huffin' and puffin' to inflate; however, it's well worth the effort. Pretty durable too; although I'm not one to trash my gear. Overall a super solid 3-season pad.
