Comments about Hi-Tec Cascadia eVent WPi Hiking Boots - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
I have been eyeing these boots sense Hi-Tec came out with their version of the Army mountain combat boot. When I was issued a pair to try out, I fell in love. Normally i run an Altima Hoplite, but the Hi-Tec have them beat. Now, this boot is similar to the pair I wear in uniform. Differences include the coloring, reflective tape along the tongue and ankle pull. Also, the rear ankle support is better on this model. I recieved these on a Thursday, and late friday night took my local Boy Scouts out on their 8 miler. It turned into closer to ten miles. The terrian we covered included slick rock, mud pits, off chamber climbs, steep grades on dirt hills, and even some water crossing. When we set out, I just laced them with a regulat bow knot, to see how long it would take to loosen up. Time 1 hour 23 minutes. Not bad for a simple lacing. In that time frame they were subjected to many snags and obstacles. After the hike, they cleaned up nicely with a water hose and rubbing with my hands. I only received one hot spot, left ankle were the reinforcment loop on the outside is. I get that hot spot with every new pair of boots though, something about my feet. Now these boots are great, but they are not an end all to proper foot care while out on the trail. Sock replacement and buddy checking is key to long hikes and I instill this into my scouts. If my troop could outfit all the boys with these we would. As for these boots up against my military counterparts, these surpassed my expectations and outperformed them due to no leather on the boots. The ballistic canvas is a plus in my book.

Comments about Hi-Tec Cascadia eVent WPi Hiking Boots - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
Bought this out of the outlet to give it a try because I needed something quick and cheap. Personally my only experience has been with bargain store Hi-Tec in the past and my expectations was a little nicer version of those, man was I wrong.
First impression out of the box is that they were of a much higher quality than anything Hi-Tec I've ever seen let alone owned from them. The boot is stiff in all the right places for moving with a heavy load, is comfortable enough to wear for 10 hours moving with a heavy pack right out of the box (bad me I know but that was the situation I got dumped in), and the water proofing worked great.
downsides are that while new the Ankle stiffener supports come up a little far and dig into my calf's causing a tender spot, the water proofing when new is a little too warm, and I'm not sure if the eVent cooling works as well as something like goretex because it was a little damp in there during my regular sock changes. Those are negatives I count as positives though because I can live with all of that.

I bought these boots only on the basis that I have owned Hi-Tecs before and that by description I felt they would meet my needs. They definitely have! I wore them on my hike to the top of Kilimanjaro last October and throughout my visit to Tanzania and Ethiopia. I wear them regularly for hikes through the NC mountains and often to work just because they're so comfortable. I have nothing negative to say. Just a great product!
