Another disappointment with the fit of an REI raincoat. I recently returned the Kyoto trench because the lower arms were almost skin-tight. I thought I would have better luck with this Sherpa jacket.

I'm glad they put a new picture on the website, because the one that was there when I ordered showed the color as purple, but when it arrived it was cranberry. By the way, the printed design on the hood and sleeves I thought was a bit much.

Thinking I could maybe deal with the color, I tried on the coat. The sleeves were at least 4 inches past my fingertips when I held my arm at my side. This was a new one for me; usually garment sleeve length is too short. But the cuffs had velcro and could stay in place.

However, when I zipped the coat, the fit of the bottom half was too snug (although it was loose enough on top). If this were a dress it would have been a well-tailored fit, but I want to be able to put at least a lightweight layer under a raincoat.

I've been trying to find a waterproof, breathable raincoat that's long enough for everyday wear and doesn't shout "I wear this camping". No luck.

So 2 REI raincoats, one with really skinny arms, another with too-snug hips. Each coat had the opposite problems of the other one, but neither was a good fit. Maybe your buyers need to have a conversation with your manufacturers.

And to top it off, my members coupon for this year was wasted, because the Sherpa coat was back-ordered and now the coupon is expired.

This raincoat is exactly what I was looking for. The item photos do not do it justice. It is long enough to cover my long cardigans and it is totally waterproof. It is roomy enough to fit over another lightweight jacket, but not so roomy that it looks huge. It also rolls up compactly enough to throw a rubber band around it and toss in the daypack in case of bad weather.
