Comments about Lowepro Photo Hatchback 16L AW Camera Pack:
I bought this backpack primarily for use during day hikes. I've now started using this pack as a regular backpack to replace my camera bag when on travel and just around town. It's well constructed, well thought out, and very light and comfortable.
The backpack's camera storage compartment protects my equipment well. It has a dedicated slot for a memory card as wellas compartment dividers. It hold my camera body with lens, an extra lens, a few filters, and my charger. The top compartment has room for snacks, water, a charger, and other small supplies.
If you're planning on using your camera frequently, it makes sense to keep it out of the pack, as with any bag. While it may seem inconvenient to have the camera storage in the back, I'd have to take off my backpack to access the top or outside pockets on another anyway, so removing the pack for access doesn't bother me.
It's a very light and comfortable pack, given its purpose. When wearing it, it feels like a normal backpack - you don't notice the camera storage.
I did a lot of shopping around and looking for packs ideal for dayhikes with camera equipment. I'd settled on this as opposed to a waistpack because of it's flexibility to be used in a variety of circumstances. I've worn it on hikes in the Rockies and around town when going to baseball games. It's almost entirely replaced my previous camera-only camera bag.

Comments about Lowepro Photo Hatchback 16L AW Camera Pack:
Bought this for the wife since I got her a digital SLR camera for Christmas. Have taken several hikes with the bag of far (4.5 & 9.2 miles) and she has learned to really like this pack. After adjusting it to her and teaching her to use the chest and waist strap, her comfort level increased and had no problems during our long hike. Camera easily fit into the upper pocket while she wasn't using it. Plenty of storage for other accessories and her food and water. Going on a cruise in May and plan on taking it on a few excursions in the islands and I doubt we will have any problems. One Hint: Place the camera in the upper pocket instead of the back pocket if you even think you are going to be using it out on your journeys. We place it in the back storage only when traveling and the bag is tossed in with the other gear.

Comments about Lowepro Photo Hatchback 16L AW Camera Pack:
This backpack is extremely comfortable to have on - even with my DSLR and accesories. Plenty of storage for whatever items you can imagine. Only downside is accessing your camera storage. Since the zipper is against your lower back, it can become annoying if you're constantly taking out and putting away your camera. I will comment on how protective the bag is - I took a decent tumble while cross country skiing and all my gear was safe and dry, even though my reputation was slightly impaired :)
Definitely a great bag! I'll be taking this island hopping to the carribean soon enough and I have confidence it will hold up just fine.
