Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 3 Tent - 2012 Closeout:
Bought this as an upgrade from the usual Coleman purchases, and quickly saw the differences the higher-quality tent had: easy to set up solo, aluminum vs fiberglass poles, and dry after heavy rain. I even used the attached fly lines as a clothes line for cycling gear-perfect.
Just spent 7 nights in it on a cycling trip, which ranged from 80F & heavy rain two nights in a row, to 37-40F lows the rest of the week. My only drawback to the tent is ventilation; perhaps a standard problem for any tent. Even rolling up the center fly didn't help much, as the mesh is minimal & very high.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 3 Tent - 2012 Closeout:
Bought this closeout for a bomb proof shelter for six days backpacking in the Smokies with three people. A bit tight for three, but great protection from the elements. We experienced wind gusts up to 50 mph, two days of cold rain, and some light snow/cold conditions. After tying down the rainfly, the tent stopped compressing during the wind. Stayed bone dry, and reasonably warm without any internal condensation. And the fly stays off the tent, keeping condensation away.
Really great quality, durability, and function. A bit heavy for backpacking, but we split the tent up between three of us. Glad to add it to my collection of tents for a 3.5 season bombproof option.
Service and delivery comments:
As usual, REI delivered quickly in perfect condition.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 3 Tent - 2012 Closeout:
I've only set this up inside the house, but hope to use it for car camping and short, easy backpacks for a long time. The design seems a bit lacking in airflow, which could make for a hot night in humid summer conditions but it could also help with warmth in shoulder season. It would sleep three adults if need be, certainly a couple and a small child would be fine in there. Nice headroom and covered porch. The pole design was interesting but seems to work great. I'd love two doors and a pound lighter weight, but for this price I think this might be the best value in a mid-weight tent available.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 3 Tent - 2012 Closeout:
Bought this tent to use for Boy Scout Campouts. It's roomy enough for two, with gear, the vestibule is adequate for storing a backpack or two, plus shoes, but the most impressive thing to me was that we used it on a very windy night and it held up very well compared to most of the tents around us. I'm not too keen on the pole configuration because it's a little awkward to set up, but not so much that I'd give it a "con" rating here.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 3 Tent - 2012 Closeout:
I spent 10 weeks living out of this tent on the North Slope of Alaska during the summer. It performed admirally. The pole configuration was a little tricky to figure out at first, but once i learned it, set-up's a snap. I like the pole design now as there's really only two poles to keep track of if setting up in dark, rain, or under heavy mosquito bombardment. This tent works well in cool/cold (<45F) since only the top is mesh. Sometimes in modern all mesh tents i feel like I'm in a wind tunnel. However, the down-side of that is in warm weather when the sun hits it, it becomes an oven. I woke up cooked on a couple of warmer days. That kind of functioned like an alarm clock, keeping me from the lazy. The tent was sturdy. The wind on the tundra can be brutal (sometimes I really miss trees), but the tent held strong through out. For such a roomy tent it folds small and is light enough for backpacking. The only real issue i have with the tent is the stupid zippers. The fly zipper continuely got caught on the fly, which really sucks when your trying to out run a mosquito swarm. The tent zippers were not as bad but still unimpressive. Come on, Big Agnes! you build a wonderful tent then skimp on the zippers? All'n'all, great tent that i'd recommend to any, as long as they're not using it in hot weather. I look foreward to another field season sleeping with Big Agnes. Shout out to Toolik! Lakes Rule!
