I purchases this camera about two weeks ago and I love it. It took me a few days to figure out all the options, but once I learn about all the different settings and options, I am really going to enjoy this camera. The only draw back I have is the 4k cin. and 2.7 cin. settings. These settings have a limited amount of time that the camera will record. Once I set the settings down to 1080 and set the fps to the correct setting, I am able to record non stop or until the card fills up. The picture quality is great.All in all I am very happy with my purchase.

I was psyched to get the new Hero 3 Black. I have the Hero 2 and I must say that this product was not ready to be released. It freezes on me, battery life is poor, and heats up. I like the built in wireless and thought I would love the iOS App since I have been waiting for an external viewfinder option. The app is buggy and has a major lag. I updated the firmware and still have issues. Also, I would like a replay option but I knew it didn't have it when I purchased it.
I am planning to send it back and keep my Hero 2 for now. The bugs are too plentiful for the price. Not the same GoPro I fell in love with years ago.

I had problems from the moment I tried to update the sotware, nothing went smoothly. No view finder, could not get the cell phone thing to work. Remote needed to be sinked with the camera everytime you turned it on. Trying to do that with the lame viewfinder was not easy. I was thankful to be rid of it.

Like others have said, the battery life is terrible and the camera gets very hot. This is with the latest firmware.

I do not want to have to invest another $100 in batteries for a camera that may or may not actually take the videos that I am trying to shoot. I was already gritting my teeth about the additional $65 for a MicroSD card (class 10 is critically important) + $80 for the LCD + $50 in mounts to start with + who knows what else for charging gear that I was going to have to spend.

The quality of the images is fine although I could not get it to work as well as I hoped (esp. in low light). I am sure more fiddling around with the settings would make it work but it ended up being more frustrating than not.

Also, know that you will need software (like VLC) to view videos shot at a higher quality otherwise you will just get sound and no video as another reviewer found.
