The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
used for snow sports and water activities
constant crashing - haven't been able to work out why - especially annoying (and painful to fix with numb fingers) when mounted on helmet for snow sports

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
I mounted this to my bike and it has worked very well. The wide angle lens gives some distortion around the edges, but also really enhances the feel of speed in the videos. The main shortfall is that it has a short battery life (maybe 45 minutes). Resolved by buying an extra battery. I really like the WiFi connection with my IPAD for making adjustments to the camera and seeing the camera image while adjusting the camera mount angle.

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
As a photojournalist/videographer, I've used GoPro's since they first came out. The new "black" version has the best image quality yet, but the battery life suffers greatly from the increased resolution and WiFi connect. Turning WiFi off completely doubles battery life but defeats the use of start/stop on the remote or mobile device. Recommend that if for critical use, test in the desired mode settings before taking it out on a shoot to assure coverage of your event. Digging into the forums and fellow users tips will help get the best use out of this somewhat quirky camera.

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
If you are reading this and is deciding to get one prior to a vacation, I can tell you get one and update the software, there will be no regrets if you prepare correctly. Please read on.
Ok just like you I was reading most of the reviews 3 or 4 months ago. I could not decide between Silver or Black, and have visited REI 2-3 times as I battle the $100 difference. THe slow motion of the Black is what got me attracted after reading more reviews. And the selling point should be that 120 fps at 720 instead of the 4K.
I update the software "Manually" meaning I typed in the serial number as suggested in gopro website instead of using the Java to detect my GoPro. It takes less than 7 minutes and I think the unit should reset 5 times.
I made a dumb move of formating the microSD card after the software update (I was just trying to delete the photos) so DO NOT FORMAT your SD card using the GoPro option as it will also erase the loaded software. I think GoPro should have this some sort of protection so that SW dont get accidentaly deleted. What if you are in island without PC and internet, GoPro will hang most of the time with the stock software.
Anyway I just reload the SW and the GoPro have not crashed since then.
I have used this for more than 2 months now and in my vacation, it was used everyday, underwater, snorkeling, also on my snowboarding, For timelapse and jumping off boats. It delivers very well!
For Accessories:
- microSD I got two 32gB Sandisk UHS-1 (aka Class10), but I only used 1 coz battery dies soone enough. I only recored 1440 resolution and not 4K.
- The tripod attachment is a must!
- Head strap for my kids when they are swimming
- Also bought extra helmet connectors for my kids ski helmet.
- Battery I have to highlight.
I read about getting extra battery which was a smart suggestion and got the Wasabi set with 2 battery and wall plug charger
I've compiled a video of my trip, all of them are from GoPro Hero3. If the link does not work search on youtube

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
Different from a normal camera, so don't get this if you are looking for just a camera. Video's will be choppy if you do not download the software from GoPro (there is a free edition). Does take a while to get use to, but once you learn how to use it, the pictures and video's are pretty good. You have to remember that this is a compact action camera, so it is not going to have the settings and ease of use like a normal camera.

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
Amazing image quality, lots of recording options, incredible frame rates, very small, battery life is about 1-1 1/2 hours and could be longer, extra batteries are very small and affordable, and I always carry 2 fully loaded spares with me. The free, downloadable editing software is very easy to use.

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
Excellent image quality. Many resolutions to choose from and only begun to unleash camera's potential. Once I figured out some of the functionality (RTFM - online), the fun factor went up quickly. It's Hi-Def point-&-shoot really. Received decent tech support from the manufacturer on mounting options and looking forward to taking on more adventures. If only there was a dog collar mount...

Comments about GoPro HERO3 Black Edition Wide-Angle Helmet Cam:
My first GoPro. It replaced a low end helmet cam I got a few years ago. Very easy to use and mount. Great video quality. Would like a little more battery life. I also have the remote, but don't use it. The GoPro app is great, but sometimes doesn't "find" the camera. Overall very pleased and happy I purchased the GoPro. I'm still working on a chin guard mount for my dirt bike helmet (that seems to be the angle I like best). Would also like try the chest strap for Mountain biking.
