Comments about SteriPEN Adventurer Opti Water Purifier with Solar Charging Case - 2012 Closeout:
If you are reading this review, be sure to check out the LONG line of previous reviews on REI's main site - not the Outlet site.
The main reason I wanted to post this review is to let you know that SteriPen is going to switch to the Freedom model and couple this one with the Solar Charge kit.
For MOST people, this will not be an issue. However, for the 4+ backpacking days, or those who must rely upon the solar charger to charge the Freedom model while they are in the field - this could create a problem. The solar charger can take 2-5 days to charge 2 Li-Ion batteries that come with this Opti. IF this is similar for the Freedom's charging capability OR you have poor solar gain, THEN you could be S.O.L. because the Freedom's battery is internal and cannot be swapped out for a fresh set of charged batteries like this Opti can. Personally, I don't want to sit around for 3 days waiting to drink some water.
Food for thought depending on how you plan to use your device...
