          I use SPDs for commuting and touring, and prefer to keep the same system on all my bikes for more flexibility. That does limit the options for stiff/light road shoes, however, as most 2-hole SPD-compatable shoes are the heavier mountain style. This model is great because it can take either 3 hole cleats or (with an adapter) 2 hole SPD cleats. The carbon plate eliminates issues with hot spots on long rides, and the ventilation is great in warmer weather. The closure system is simple and reliable. These are definitely not for walking around--the sole is quite stiff and slick--but that's expected, and I'd just wear a different pair if I was planning to spend a lot of time off the bike.

            bought these shoes to replace my other Shimano shoes. These will be used mainly to do some indoor cycling. Very well constructed and the shoes are great out of the box. No break in period needed. The velcro straps are sturdy and the buckle is very easy to use and adjust.
