The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by Open SkyfromGood bike but poor assembly and serviceI have a small car and am a bit tired of strapping on the trunk bike rack each time I have to carry my old bike. So, I was looking for a 24" bike with a quick release front wheel so that I can put the bike inside my car. It turned out there are not many such choices on the market and this is one of few that fitted the bill.
In general, it is a well built bike with an aluminium frame, and a not too heavy weight of 30 lbs. It has some nice touches too such as a kick stand, and a rear derailleur protector loop. But the front gear shifter is unlabeled unlike the rear shifter.
However, the bike was not assembled properly. The front derailleur could not shift to the lowest cog, the front V-brake cable was way too tight to release the front wheel, and the rear derailleur was not adjusted right either despite a tech adjusting the bike at the time of purchase. I had to bring the bike in a second time for them to do a warranty tune to fix these problems which should not have happened in the first place, hence wasting a free tune-up in the process as well. Even after the warranty tune, one of the front derailleur tuning screws is still way out of place as of today.
Overall, the bike itself is pretty decent but the assembly and tech service at REI are poor.

by IdahoManfromGreat Kids BikeBought this bike for my youngest son to grow into. He needed a better bike and I wanted something that wasn't going to be too small after a couple of years. It may be a bit big for him now, but he loves it (he's 8). It has many features and was at a great price compared to the competition that I looked at. I like that it has an aluminum frame, 21 speed, and front shock. Brakes are strong. Appears to be built to last and I think it will be in our family for a long time. It even came with a kick stand, some other bikes I have purchased had to have that added. Not a big cost but nice that it is already included. Tires are pretty aggressive knobby wise so this isn't for the street. Will be a great beginers bike for what ever my son can dish out to it.

by NWFishfromGreat bike for kidsThis is the lightest bike I could find for my son. I didn't want to give him a bike that was heavier than he is and this bike is the perfect fit.

by rickwhisfromVery nice, well built bikeI did a lot of research looking for a quality bike for my 12 year son who loves to ride. To this point, he was riding a steel frame, 7 speed from a big box store. This was fine and served its purpose, but it was time to move up to a more serious mountain bike with more quality parts found on real mountain bikes. Also, we are now hitting trails (in western NC) that require more than 7 gears. So, I began to search retailers as well as on line and found this Novara met all my requirements. It was 24" (he's moving up from a 20"), 6061 aluminum frame which is nice and light, has a quick disconnect front tire, 21 speed with quality Shimano detailers that shift smooth and true. Price was also a requirement, which this bike was on the high end, but I think worth it. So this bike met all of my requirements and bonuses – my son absolutely loves it and REI was great to initially tune and set up the bike, plus it has a free 30 day tune up as well. So far, it's thumbs up. I guess we'll see if it can hold up to the rigors of the trails and the 12 year old rider.

by Caver-DavefromDelighted with Christmas GiftThis was a Christmas gift for my 12 year old son. It was his first bike with shifting. He was absolutely delighted to find how much faster he could go on the neighborhood streets and trails than with his old single speed. It is well equipped for real mountain biking on both fire roads and single track trails.
I bought the bike four days before Christmas. REI.com didn't show the bike in inventory at any of my local stores. When I went in the local REI store to browse, they didn't have any in stock, but were able to identify two stores, both within an hour, that had the bike in stop. They reserved the bike for me at one of the stores. In spite of the busy pace right before Christmas, the bike was all ready for me, all assembled and tuned up. I really appreciate the great service and coordination between REI stores.
