    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Lowa Cevedale Pro GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's

Lowa Cevedale Pro GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from these boots want to walk -- off trail! The Cevedale Pro GTX is a fantastically comfortable boot, well put together, rugged, waterproof, and an all around burly hiker. As with most boots, the stock insoles want replacing with something better (pick an option based on how much volume you want to gain or lose). Lowa gets an A+ for having a wide range of sizes available. Water proofing is excellent and (one year on) seems durable, as does the boot itself (having been handled roughly and with not much attention to maintenance -- ok, zero attention). I recommend this boot for any sort of long distance rough walking (as in off-trail, sidehilling, etc) or load carrying. The Cevedale is modestly warm for an uninsulated boot, but also relatively breathable, more of the Lowa attention to detail. In fact these boots have a bit of a cadillac feel (that's intended as a compliment). The sole is somewhat narrow, which is nice for positive foot placement when passing through terrain where the footing is narrow. I'd say the Cevedale is also a pretty good boot for scrambling around. Sole traction is positive, and the rubber rand is burly. I've done quite of bit of bouldering in mine, by virtue of them being on my feet when I end up a long ways somewhere and there's boulders. With that said... While the Cevedale is definitely a great boot for general mountain travel, I wouldn't exactly call it a generalist. The Cevedale is set up for crampons, and would be ok for summer glacier travel I guess, if you had to. And again, good, even great for dinking around in gnarly terrain with a load on. Beyond that though, I wouldn't climb in a pair of these if by "climb" you mean class V, or wearing crampons. Even in a lot of the steep-slope walking one gets into off trail in the Southern Appalachians I still find myself putting on stiffer soled boots, which inclines me to say that this is one of the burliest, sweetest pair of hiking boots made, but not really a "mountaineering" boot, certainly not in any technical sense. A final note on fit: Lowas are a bit "open" in the heel. The Cevedale is very easy to adjust with the lacing (I use a Sole insole with mine, which helps), but a narrow heel might be inclined to heel-lift, where your La Sportiva's tend to grab the heel more. This would be more of a climbing problem, but bears attention.
