Big Agnes Lost Ranger Sleeping Bag is rated 3.8571 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag, plenty warm! I bought this bag to replace my 20 degree synthetic bag before a backpacking trip where it was going to be in the teens at night. I was looking for something warmer, lighter, and easier to compress. I wanted one of the new Dri-down bags from Sierra Designs, but the man at the store talked me into this bag because I am a broad-shouldered hiker, and it has the same treated-down technology. When I got home I read the reviews, and saw people repeatedly complaining about getting cold. I almost took it back, but I decided to try it. I paired it with my Thermarest Neo-Air All-Season pad, and slept in my socks, thermals, hat, and an older, cheap, discount store polyester liner. I never got close to cold. On the last night, the temperature fell to 18 degrees, and I had to take off my liner, socks, and thermals to keep from sweating. The bag (with that pad) is super warm, compresses very small, and is the most comfortable sleeping bag I have ever used. It might not be the lightest bag made, but it's the lightest I have ever owned. It has no insulation on the bottom, so the pad is crucial. The people complaining about getting cold must either be cold sleepers or using a cold pad. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Solid 25-Degree Bag After 20-years I could no longer fit in my 1988 vintage North Face Blue Kazoo. As with most people, I had to struggle to zip my bag up past my elbows. I'm 220 lbs, 46" chest and 34" waisted. I was looking for a "wider mummy" and something not cut for lean marathon type physiques. Big Agnes seemed to be the answer to my wishes. But it was a mixed bag. While I immediately fell in love with its roominess, shape, and high quality of construction the temperature rating was very misleading. My Blue Kazoo slept me comfortably down to 20-degrees on many nights in Yellowstone. Not the Lost Ranger with the same rating. While a quality bag, I personally rate it solid "25-Degree" bag. I picked this up in the fall and have used it on two backpackers and one car camper so far. Each night the temps were in the 30s (Las Vegas area; Arrow Canyon, Lovell Wash, and Moapa). I was only completely comfortable on one night out of six. That night was when the temp only dipped to 40-degress. All other nights I would turn in comfortable and wake up around 4 to 5am chilled and needing to retrieve my Patagonia down sweater from the foot box to get me back to sleep. Otherwise the cut and length of the bag were extremely comfortable. Allowing me to sleep without being constricted (laying on my back) and enough room to move my legs around a bit. Yes, I do understand the "fit" of a bag is determinant in the temperature efficiency. I was let to believe that the roomier Lost Ranger was designed to compensate for that with loft and fill. Would recommend highly, but only as a 25-degree bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lost Ranger I got this bag because it was light and integrated with my Big Agnes QCore pad (bag is useless w/o a sleeping pad inserted in the sleeve). I've used it on 4 occassions since getting it for Southern CA mountain backpacking and tailgating. It took a while for me to get used to the non-traditional style and it is more snug around the shoulders than my Slumberjack. But, I've learned how to sleep in it w/o feeling cramped and now find it very comfortable. The bonus is the small pack and lightweight features. I'm glad I bought it. Only real down side I've found is the zipper snags too easily. p.s. I read other reviews about the temp rating not being accurate, but I don't find that the case. I've been quite warm on cool/cold nights and simply unzip if I get too hot on warm nights.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wanted to love this bag... I really was excited when this went on sale. I had been looking at the synthetic version of this bag, but figured the down would be fine since Arizona tends to be a dry state. The bag is nice...I love the pad-sleeve and teamed it up with the 15 degree insulated pad. It is comfortable and roomy. You can lay on your side or back with ease BUT the zipper is very hard to actually close, and there were NOTICABLE clod spots everywhere: along the pad insert, on the top. I actually do not think I have ever been so cold...i was shivering so hard I kept waking myself up...oh, it was in the low thirties, dipping to 28 at about 4am....I know because I kept getting up to walk around and even made a pot of hot tea at 2am to try and warm up. I did see the notes about the temp inaccuracy but I slept with a heavy base layer, a hat and wool socks...it wasn't even that cold out! I returned it when we got home...which is ashame since I really liked the design and concept of their bags.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works for me This bag is the most comfortable semi mummy bag I have found. It has a pocket on the bottome for your sleeping pad and all the down is on top where it does the most good. I have slept in sub freezing temperatures in a tent and stayed warmer than in other comparably rated bags. My impression is that I have to add about 10 degrees to everybody's rating to get a true comfort rating. I have gone through many bags over the years and this one has achieved a balance of weight and comfort so I am no longer looking for a better bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very satisfied I have now taken this bag on a few trips and have to say, I really like it. I bought the BA Q-Core about a year ago and when I decided to upgrade my bag (I had been using a 20+ year old North Face bag that did the trick, but was a bit worse for the wear and a bit heavier than it needed to be), I thought I'd try a BA bag so I could try the BA pad sleeve system. I was surprised by how much I like having the pad connected to the bag. And the bag itself is surprisingly roomy. I didn't feel restricted, even when I rolled onto my side. I didn't experience the problem that some reviewers had of not being able to roll over because of the integrated pad, but then I'm on the leaner side. I could see how that would present a problem for others. Also liked the little details, like the pocket for a pillow and the use of tougher nylon near the zipper so that the zipper won't catch on the nylon, though I imagine these types of features are probably fairly standard for good bags these days. I can't comment on the warmth because I haven't tried it out yet in temps below 40 yet and, in any case, I'm accustomed to sleeping in some light wool clothing and a hat when the temps dip below 30 at night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lost Ranger has great room Like the sleeve for the sleeping pad but needed more warmth at the underside. Next Item might be the compatible Big Agnes sleep pad that fit s the bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This thing is amazing! I bought this in tandom with a great air-mattress designed to work perfectly with the BA Sleeping bag. Both pack and compress super small which is amazing! While i wish it had a little more room to make side-sleeping more comfortable, i'm more than happy with how it's performed! A definite recommendation.
