Comments about CygoLite Metro 300 and Hotshot 2W USB Combo Bike Light Set:

Bright and conveniently rechargeable lights, and a great headlight, offset by the shoddy construction and design of the rear light. I am on my third in two months. The failure involves the light staying on and an inability to control it after riding in wet weather. Since I commute in Portland Oregon, this is a major failure. If you ride frequently in wet weather, this is not the product for you. Also, I now have to eat the price of the after-market mounting kit which REI doesn't sell (to attach it to my rear rack).

Comments about CygoLite Metro 300 and Hotshot 2W USB Combo Bike Light Set:

Both of these lights are great. I've used a planet bike superflash all sorts of cheapo blinkys and various cateye, and a blaze front lights in the past, but this set blows them all out of the water.

I first saw the metro300 in the San Antonio REI on opening day and was really impressed, they didn't have any in stock, and they were backordered online. I had to wait for awhile after I ordered it but I'm glad I did. I'll talk about these two lights separately.

    They Cygolite Metro-300:
The mounting bracket seemed cheap and flimsy in the product description(IMO) but it is actually well built, sturdy, and attaches securely and confidently on your handle bar. The light is easily tilted up and down and can be oriented from side to side, so you can adjust it where you aren't blinding oncoming traffic(because you certainly can with this bad boy). This is much brighter than any other self contained cycling light I have ever seen. Even brighter than most dynamo powered lights I've seen. The multiple strobes are really great. The steady-pulse strobe is eye-catching for motorists but is still steady enough that you can use it to light up your way. I can't recommend this light enough as a front headlight, if you look at the burn times on cygolites other lights, they are all shorter than this one and in my opinion anything brighter than this is overkill, unless you are route finding way off in the woods or something. This light can illuminate the entire street in front of me in my dark neighborhood allowing me to dodge every pothole at top speed. The spot is absolutely perfect for cycling. I've really bright lights in the past that had such a tight spot that you could blind cars ahead of you but not see potholes in the road. The light this thing gives off lights up the road directly in front of you and ahead of you. It really is something that has to be experienced firsthand. It is really, really great.
I love it. Get one by itself or this kit.

The Hotshot 2W: I wasn't as blown away with the performance of this light. Don't get me wrong it is a really fantastic light and is arguably the best and brightest self-contained commuter light on the market. I've used a planetbike superflash for years and IMO they are pretty comparable. They are both fairly directional and eye catching. The hotshot has more strobe options and its neat that you can adjust the frequency, but I don't think it's really needed.

The big difference is that being able to charge the hotshot with USB s easily, assures that you are at full capacity and brightness all the time. The Hotshot is also slightly brighter than the superflash but it is an extremely close comparision. It was difficult to learn how to turn off the light at first but once you find the proper length of time to hold the button down it seems very intuitive and simple. The only thing that I don't like about this light is that the clip that is built in to the light housing seems a little weak and could be designed where it would fasten to clothing a little more tightly. The superflash wins in this regard, I can clip the superflash to my waistband and not worry about it, but I'm not so sure with the hotshot. However the hotshot is noticiably lighter than the superflash....

Another gripe is that the mounting brackets for the superflash and the hotshot are non-interchangeable. This is a minor gripe and isn't the companies fault, but it would be nice if they used a universal size. You can't go wrong with this light.

I think this is great package.
You can't put a price tag on safety, be seen, don't be stupid. I am actively telling all of my cyclist friends how awesome these lights are.
