REI AirRail 1.5 Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad is rated 4.4324 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice! I'm 6'3", 190lbs and have tried several brands/variations of sleeping pads. The REI AirRail 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad (long wide) is just what I've been looking for. I used up on the shores of Lake Huron in Canada where the temps dropped down to nearly freezing (34 degrees) and it provided plenty of insulation. I'm mostly a side sleeper and this provides ample cushioning for me. What I like most is the roominess of the width and the guidance of the side rails.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks silly, works great. I use this mat for backpacking and car camping and the occasional night at a friends place when beds/couches are full. I fall asleep on my back and roll around in the night to get comfortable. Usually in the night I roll off and wake up on the ground. My original Thermarest mat was warm and comfortable but I had to get a larger size model because I kept rolling off. The rails on this model fit me well around my elbows and keep me in a comfortable and warm spot all night. Have used it in grass, on a riverbank, and in the woods and it has been comfortable and durable. Great features and performs like it should.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality & Price Excellent design and price. Bought this for short backpacking trips (2-3 days) and car camping. I had a 20" wide Thermarest Trail Lite Reg pad (1.5" Thick) but my arms would fall of the sides (I'm 5'-10", 170lbs). It's great for my kids. So I got a Thermarest Trail Lite Long (25" wide) pad, which was wider and a little heavier but more comfortable. That was great for car camping, but I was going to buy a Thermarest ProLite Plus Long (for backpacking), but I decided to try the REI AirRail 1.5 Long pad, which is a bit smaller & lighter and cheaper. And the air rails really help keep you (and your bag) in place better than the 25" wide Thermarest, and my arms still don't fall off the sides. Just did 2 day overnite on the AT at High Point State Park, NJ July 2013. The material seems a little thinner than Thermarest but so far so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm in Alaska Winter I bought this for my 10 year old son to backpack and winter camp. We just finished an overnight trip that hit single digit temperatures. He was comfortable and warm all night. The side rails are great at keeping him on the pad. Easy to inflate and deflate. Takes a little practice to role up compact so it fits in the stuff sack. Very good price for a warm pad.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool concept, and overall a good pad. The Air rails on the sides of this sleeping pad give excellent support to keep you from falling off all night. It also works great in a hammock to keep that wind off your back on cold nights. Overall, this is a comfortable sleeping pad, just make sure to put enough air in it or you will be feeling the ground.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Sleeping Pad I have not used this in cold weather camping yet, but I could tell it was insulating when I was sleeping in about 50* weather. Doesn't pop right up, but tops off with just a few easy breathes. The price was right. Comparable to the Thermarest for comfort, lower on price and higher on R-value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! I knew I'd eventually break down and switch over to an inflatable (from a foam sleeping pad). I finally realized it makes no sense to delay comfort over "wearing the other pad out" so I got this a few months ago. It's 1000% more comfortable. (I admit my foam pad was warm) As I don't roll off the pad anymore, this is overall warmer -- and as comfortable as my home bed mattress. Get one long enough so that your feet don't hang off. THEY WILL STAY WARMER!! Love it!!!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for this side sleeper Just used this on a multiday backpacking trip. Many good features of this. The relatively high R-Value kept me warm at 30 degrees and 50+ winds. I liked the way the nozzle functioned -- easy to add and remove air. And I didn't slide. The weight/size is acceptable, but I'd rather have a wide, thin roll than a medium sized pack that must take room in the bag. However, this was mitigated because it fit nicely in a compartment in the top flap of my backpack. Otherwise, I am simply looking for comfort. -- I don't quite get the appeal of the side flaps - they aren't that important as compared to comfort; they don't come into play, really. Perhaps for a hammock camper, they'd be good. The real issue is that my sleep was the most uncomfortable I've ever had while camping. I am a 195 lb side sleeper, and my hips were so sore and bruised that giving each one a rest during the night didn't relieve the pain. Two days later, they are still sore. So I must concur with the two other side sleepers that the 1.5 isn't thick enough to provide comfort. Comfort is subjective -- this is great otherwise, so I am sure this is great for those who aren't side sleepers or find it comfortable. I commend the quality of construction. Other than how my body reacted to it, it was a good product.
