Comments about Big Agnes Juniper SL Sleeping Bag - Women's:
I bought this bag for use on my Appalachian Trail thru-hike. I started the trail in early March and for the first month had below freezing night temperatures with wind chills dipping into the teens and woke up multiple times with inches of snow surrounding my tent. About a week into my trip I purchased a bag liner that "adds up to 25 degrees" and unfortunately a pound of weight, but with the combination of the two I stayed warm and cozy every night! I chose to go with a 25 degree bag and supplement with a liner if needed so that as the weather warmed I could ditch the liner and still have a comfortable night sleep fully zipped in my bag. This system has worked great for me but now as the temperatures jump into the 50s at night I find myself sleeping with the bag fully unzipped and using it as a quilt at night. (This still works great.) I will be switching to a summer bag soon but will be getting this bag back for New Hampshire and Maine!
Some aspects of this bag that I love;
-Full length zipper, has never snagged
-Spacious hood- allows me to tuck my pillow inside and have plenty of material to keep my head warm
-Neck draft control-(I'm not sure what this is actually called but this pillowy excess material around the neck stops drafts from entering the bag from the top)
-Spacious- Plenty of leg room (I am 5'6), does not have the typical claustrophobic feel of a mummy
-Stays Dry!!- I wake up most mornings with a lot of moisture in my tent, my bag typically feels a little damp on the outside but this moisture has never gone through to the inside or affected the warmth of the bag. 10 minutes in the sun or dry air and the dampness is completely gone. Even when I stuff my damp bag in my dry sack and take it back out ten hours later still damp on the outside the warmth is not affected!
-Comfortable!- Material is soft and comfortable. Even before leaving for the trail I slept in my new sleeping bag almost every night because I enjoyed how soft it is!
