I bought these for hiking. Thought they would be great for summer, and they are, because I could turn them into shorts and jump in a lake. They have been so comfortable that I use them for everything now. If there was a down side it would be they are so light they may be a little cold for winter, but not enough so to have stopped me from using them when the weather is near freezing.

I lost a fair amount of weight last year, leaving me with three pair of convertible pants which don't fit. So when REI dividend time came around, I decided I needed some conv pants that fit.

I tried a number of pair on before buying, these by far were the best fitting.

After a three-day backpack trip in the Southern Cascades this spring, the verdict is in. They are superbly comfortable, and though lightweight and breathable, they don't feel flimsy. The pant legs come on and off easily (though, despite the description, the side zips did NOT make it possible to take them off with my boots still on). The zip-offs are color coded to make it easy to distinguish between right and left. And after three days in the wilderness, they still looked great enough to stop for breakfast in town on the way home.

Looking forward to many trips in these excellent pants.
