Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe! I love these shoes. They have good traction on muddy trails. They cushion my feet well. They aren't waterproof, but they dry quickly, so they are always dry by the next day. Lightweight, with good support. My feet don't like shoes with too much arch support, and these feel fine. The salesperson at REI was very helpful with finding a good fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelled on an ultra with no break-in I put these shoes to the ultimate test and they performed extremely well. I am not much of a trail runner myself but after agreeing to go on Hut to Hut Traverse (a 52 mile route through the White Mountains with 17,000ft of elevation gain) I knew I needed a good shoe. I got these based on a few really good reviews from friends. The run was a killer, but my feet couldn't have been better! I didn't break in the shoes at all before doing this and I finished up with no blisters (even after a few hours of rainy conditions) and no real foot pain. Very pleasantly surprised to say the least. They held up really well and have been good on all subsequent uses as well. Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from my preferred trail running shoe I use this on trails in WA state, mostly the cascades, while either trail running or training for alpine (ie, carrying heavy weights up mountains). I got these after running in a number of minimal trail shoes, and 1 other non-minimal trail shoe. I realized that I cannot run the way I want to in a minimal shoe. Pros: 1) it's not super heavy compared to some others 2) running over small rocks is not painful like it is with minimal trail shoes 3) it maintains traction in mud *and* on stone slabs covered in kitty litter. It's better than any of the "zero-rise" trail shoes I've tried. I might have a different shoe if I was running in UT or CO all the time, but for what I do I'm really enjoying this shoe. Cons: 1) it's still heavier than I'd like. 2) I'd rather it have a zero rise (from toe to heel), because that's what I want. 3) assembly is inconsistent between pairs of shoes, but this is a complaint I have with nearly all shoes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for trail/road I use the Brooks Cascadia line for my Fall/winter running. The shoe gives you a very comfortable and confident feel underfoot on rocky roads or trails. Not to heavy not to light.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worksmanship issues with Cascadia 8 I've run in Brooks Cascadia for a few years now and absolutely love they way they fit and feel. I run trails several times a week during the warm weather. I typically wear them out by about 300 miles, but the trails I run are fairly rugged. I purchased a pair of the new Brooks Cascadia 8, and laced them up before a race for the first time (I know, a no-no), and one of the lace holders ripped out. Brought them back to REI after the race, and exchanged them for an exact same pair (thanks REI!). After my 6th run in the new pair, the exact same lace holder ripped out again! Unbelievable. I run about 1800 miles a year, many of that on trails, and I've never had this happen with ANY shoe ... and it has happened twice with the Cascadia 8. I cannot recommend these shoes to another user, and will unfortunately begin my search for a new comfy trail running shoe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not too bad Received these for Christmas and I've worn them twice so far. Once on a short 7 mile run on my local trails with some mud and water and again on a 50k this past weekend. The 50k had a few creek crossings and a good amount of mud. Bought the same size as my Cascadia 6's (didn't get 7's). These feel about a half size too big. The toe box is pretty large and I think I could go a half size smaller to ensure a better fit. Noticed that my traction wasn't great in the mud. The soles caked up, thus resulting in slippery footing. My 6's previously didn't seem to have this problem, but I didn't try them out on this particular trail. I will also say that these felt a bit heavy compared to my 6's, but again, it could have been the mud. Once I get a smaller size I think these could be real nice shoes for my typical trail runs on technical but dry terrain. Wet/muddy conditions could be iffy. Overall, not a bad shoe, but I might like my 6's a bit better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a Trail Shoe This shoe will not protect you on the trail from stone bruises. It is just a running shoe with a more aggressive tread. I have run in the Brookes Beast not for pronation but because they are beefy for years and they were more stable and provided better protection than these trail shoes. I would not recommend for trail running. Granted I am 6' 4" and 230 but regardless I would not put my kid in these for tough trail. I love the Brooke Beast but have not had much luck from other Brooke shoes for the trail. This shoe needs more padding and a shank.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good so far, worried about longevity I was born with club feet, so my problem is supination rather than pronation. Still, these shoes fit well, and I enjoy running in them, even though it's only 2-4 miles per day. I am a bit concerned about the tread on the bottom of the shoes. They look to be well made, but intended to be used for the purpose of digging into soft ground. So, these shoes seem good for use on trails in most conditions, but not so good on hard surfaces, like roadways.
