This is a great buy for its intended purpose. The bike feels tight and responsive when set up correctly. A simple switch on the rear shock opens up travel and smooths out big drops while switching it back tightens up the back end for climbs and technical switchbacks. Be sure the bike tech spends time with you and fits the bike for you. The weakest part of this package: The included Kendall Small Block Eight tires. They are not up to the task of real cross country riding and I'm mystified as to why these keep showing up on mountain bikes. For the money this is a great bike. I recommend Shimano XT pedals....

Comments about Cannondale Scalpel 29er Alloy 4 Bike - 2013:

This is a great bike if you are a true offroader. The standard gear set is very low-ratioed so any time you need speed you'll be in trouble. I am 6'+ and the Large is still too small with my tail high in the air and the bars too low. There is no XL in stock and the wait time is 5-6 weeks so this will go back and I'll be onto a Trek, unfortunately.
