Comments about REI Rainwall Rain Jacket - Men's:
Zippers, including the longest zipper in the front of the jacket, catch on the adjacent material.
If you put bulky items like a case for your glasses in the deep inner pockets at the bottom of the jacket, this interferes with your hands when you try to put them in the outer pockets. Two deep inner breast pockets with zippers would have been preferable.
It says it is breathable but the inner layer of the jacket gets really wet when I ride my bike, even with the armpit zippers wide open, although it drys very fast when the jacket comes off.
Very stylish and mine is a beautiful bright red color.
I use this shell mainly for bike riding and as a substitute for a jacket. I also intend to use it and a fleece layer as part of my backpacking gear when I go to areas that get into the low 30s at night. I bought this shell because I could not find a jacket with a hood and lots of inner and outer pockets. This jacket has five pockets. With REI's lightest hooded fleece shirt, it becomes almost as warm as a jacket in the 50 degree weather we have most of the year where I live on the Calif. coast. With heavier fleece I think it would be as warm as a real jacket. So I plan to buy a the heaviest fleece hoodie for that purpose when they become available later in the year.

Comments about REI Rainwall Rain Jacket - Men's:
I was looking for a lighter alternative to my bulky 20-yr old North Face rain shell. Got a good deal on the Rainwall, and it came in handy a few weeks later when we spent a cold, wet week camping in Yosemite.
As advertised, the jacket kept the water out and helped a lot in keeping me warm. The pleasant surprise was how comfortable it was and how well it looked. I was initially put off by the jacket's non-supple feel (I guess the gore-tex inside is doomed to be stiff and crinkly), but the more I wore it, the more supple it became. By the end of the week, it was my outerwear of choice, even when it wasn't raining.
My only complaint was the hood was too large. I think it was sized for someone wearing a helmet. When I donned the hood and then turned my head sideways, I ended up looking at the inside of my hood. If I drew the drawstrings tight enough to have the hood conform to my head, it ended up pulling the hood over my eyes. The solution was to wear a ball cap. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning to REI's designers.
Bottom line is I'm pleased. I got a light weight water PROOF shell that will work great for pack trips, all at a very affordable price.

Comments about REI Rainwall Rain Jacket - Men's:
I bought the coat for year round walks in the early morning and riding my scooter to work. It works equally well for both and tucks easily out of the way when not in use. Nice coat, not hard to wear with dress pants for a walk to the local bar.

Comments about REI Rainwall Rain Jacket - Men's:
The jacket definitely keeps you dry, but it doesn't breathe too well, so if it is a warm rain...
I am a lanky 6'1" and the medium fits me well. I like a slimmer fit, but the sleeve length is fine.
All in all a great, light weight rain jacket, just not a great summer option in most places.

Comments about REI Rainwall Rain Jacket - Men's:
I just tested this jacket out for real in the rainy coasts of Olympic National Park. Worked like a champ, I stayed dry. This jacket replaced an aging Marmot PreCip jacket that I adored. This is lighter, but looks like it will do all I ask of it and then some. Only gripes I have are the zippers suck in fabric, and the hood draw cords are not the greatest design, but they still work.

Comments about REI Rainwall Rain Jacket - Men's:
After having owned several different rain jackets, I can say that this is by far the best one. The seams held up good and kept me totally dry on a recent hike where it rained buckets. my only gripe, and a small one at that, is that the hood bib doesn't want to cover my hat. There is an elastic draw lip for just this purpose, but mine doesn't want to stay on for some reason. Otherwise it is a superb jacket.

The Rainwall fits my needs for a versatile lightweight jacket that works on and off the bike. This shell's removable hood helps it transition from hiking to cycling. The underarm vents, uncommon in many cycling jackets are a plus.

Comments about REI Rainwall Rain Jacket - Men's:
This is a great jacket; not quite a home run though. I was convinced to purchase this from an REI staff member over a comparable jacket and I am pleased. It packs up very small into it's own hood (at least that's how I do it) a little smaller than a pringles can. I can shove it into my backpack on day or multiday hikes without a second thought to weight or volume. It is very light and I wear it as a early spring/fall jacket and in wet/rainy weather otherwise. It looks good enough to sport around the office or anywhere else. It doesn't have any insulation, however. Don't expect this to really keep you warm. It's just a waterproof shell that looks sharp.
My only gripe is that the cuffs at the end of the sleeves are not waterproof. Water will roll off them at first but they quickly absorb whatever is left over. The cuffs don't have the same lining as the rest of the jacket so I'm curious why REI did this. I guess it wouldn't matter during a rainstorm in the mountains but around town it's kind of a pain to have cold, damp cuffs.
Otherwise, great jacket. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a lightweight outer shell.
