REI La Porte Jacket - Women'sis rated4.0out of5by2.
Rated3out of5byc-m-dfromAlmost!My first mail order reaction was, "Oh no, this is going back..." The snaps were so hard to pull apart that it felt as though they would tear the fabric. The zip was stiff. The position of the flaps on the lower pockets seemed awkward, and if I wanted to put my hands in the pockets I'd have to tuck the flaps in. The sleeves were snug, so the cuffs could only be turned back as far as my forearms. The belt loops were a little too high. But then I noticed that the pockets were nice and deep, and the pocket flaps when fastened would thwart any pickpocket. I liked the Shale color, butt-covering length, and two-way zipper. The fabric felt pleasant. The jacket is lightweight and packs up small. It fit me perfectly. Nice style - it has many of the qualities of a safari jacket without being that obvious. In fact, in this jacket I looked good! Vanity almost won, but after considering for a few days, I decided it was going to be annoying to wear, and therefore it wouldn't get worn. This is the kind of jacket you should feel as though you could live in, so I sent it back.
Suggestions for perfection: Easier snaps, please! Slightly wider sleeves, and bigger slashes at the cuffs, so the sleeves can be rolled up to the elbows. Belt loops that allow the wearer to lower the belt (for us long-waisted types). Two inside zip chest pockets, as this jacket is an obvious choice for travelers. I'd happily reorder with those updates.

Rated5out of5bySashaLovesfromStylish & perfect for Seattle's SpringOMG, can I just say how much I love this jacket? I bought this for an upcoming trip to Paris. I wanted something that would be lightweight, keep me dry in light rain, and (the hard part) be stylish.
It meets all of that, and is decently warm too. Definitely if it's over one of the cardigans that are in heavy rotation in my wardrobe. It has a nice sporty elegance, which makes it useful when my boyfriend and I are riding our bikes to a dinner date. When I begin bike commuting in May, I don't see why I can't wear this.
I wasn't sure what to expect... but I ADORE my LaPorte jacket. I wear it with one of my scarves, and usually earn a compliment every time I wear it. Makes me feel good!
A reason I don't like typical windbreakers/light rain jackets is that suddenly my shape is moot. With wide hips and broad shoulders, that belt helps emphasize my waist. The belt is also useful when I don't feel like buttoning or zipping (that's right, it offers both!) the jacket. The fabric is flexible enough to move in - I don't feel constricted - yet seems like it'll be durable enough to last through many adventures. (And if not, there's always that REI guarantee, eh?)
