Comments about Lucky Bums Utility Sled:
great to use to safely introduce my 1 yr old to the outdoors. I can pull her around in the snow and she has a blast. or pack my baby and put my pack in the sled and pull it. when not outside my pack goes in it and I can put things in it that I later plan to pack like food, fuel canisters, etc.

Comments about Lucky Bums Utility Sled:
I used this for a trip around Crater Lake February 2013. This was way too much to ask of this sled. It does not tow well through deep snow due to the front edge being almost vertical. Great trip but this sled is not made for this type of use.

Comments about Lucky Bums Utility Sled:
The Good: If you want an inexpensive, functional pulk, this is a great product. I have pulled it while snowshoeing in a variety of snow conditions ranging from ice to powder to slush in Lassen Volcanic National Park and find that it tracks acceptably well and doesn't bog down when used on flat or gently rolling terrain. The attachment points for towing worked well for pulling my approximately 125-lbs of gear. In my opinion they appear unlikely to fail for towing loads up to the manufacturer's rating of 200-lbs and the sled works well as a pulk if you want to move your load off your back and tow it behind you instead.
The Bad: Pulling this on steep terrain felt like harnessing myself to a boat anchor and dragging it around. It was sometimes hard to tell if I was dragging the pulk or if it was dragging me. However, I do not view this as a design flaw of the sled, but more just a reality of the laws of physics when trying to pull a low-friction sled over steep terrain--i.e. gravity is going to dominate the battle and the sled is going to want to run away from you and pull you down the hill whether you are trying to go up, do a slow and controlled descent, or traverse. If you don't strap your gear in securely on steep terrain it is only a matter of time before the sled rolls and dumps your goods down the hill. Luckily I anticipated this and never lost anything when it has rolled on my four times.
Used in flat or gently rolling terrain, this sled is a highly functional and inexpensive pulk. Just remember that taking it onto steeper terrain is not really what any pulks are meant to do well.

Comments about Lucky Bums Utility Sled:
I bought this sled with harness to tow the young ones when showshoeing and for winter backpacking. The sled worked great and tracked well, even when negotiating tight turns and blowdowns over deep snow. My only complaint is that the hardware that comes with the harness is cheap, if replaced with climbing carabiners it should work great. Also, system worked much better with poles crossing each other, rather than running straight out.
