by Spit-FirefromExcellent Tourer With Ankle SupportAn excellent boot for beginning and intermediate classic groomed trails. Definitiely a step or two above the entry level groomed trail touring boot at a very affordable price. Provides excellent lateral ankle support for torquing the skis and maintaining ski edge control, especially on steeper, more advanced trail uphills and downhills, or under less than ideal conditions (e.g., icy tracks) while providing a nice hinge for good in-line flexibility to kick and glide on the flats. This boot is light, warm and comfortable for one in its class (touring), and its interior conforms to the foot with use. Competitive and very advance classic skiers who count the grams of weight would want the lighter weight and lower top (without the ankle support) of a boot that's designed for racing that comes with a much higher price tag. Took a little work to get the velcro strap to fold over at a different point from where it was folded at the factory, but once done a couple times it's now where it should be for my ankle. While it might be acceptable for light, occasional off-trail use over short distances, I do not recommend it for any significant amount of off-trail use. For that, look to wider skis with edges and the beefier, stiffer (and heavier) NNN-BC boots and bindings (you'll be happier and less fatigued).
