Specialized ski/hike mechanism frees the upper cuff from the lower part of the boot and offers movement for hiking—boots are also really comfortable to walk in!

Picked up skiing this season after a few years of snowboarding. Was recommended this boot as a begineer/intermediate due to the lower flex and 3 buckles. It fit well, and REI just happened to have it on sale, so it was a no brainer.

It's pretty easy to get in and out, and tighten down. The top buckle lacks the microadjust feature of the lowers, but I can still get a tight fit without cutting off circulation or straining to get the buckle closed. Took it to some PA and NY mountains, and I'll just say that it wasn't the boots that were holding me back. They kept me comfortable and warm over several days of skiing.

I don't think it's the stiffest or most technical of boots, but for a recreational skiier, this boot fit the bill perfectly.

As a beginner I had been renting all kinds of boots that never fit right and were way too stiff. I tried on 4 or 5 pairs of boots in store on two different days before I settled on these as they fit my foot perfectly. Not sloppy and my heel remains planted while actually being able to flex the boot. I'm 6'2" and 215 pounds on 165cm skis so it may seem a little odd, but I'm really enjoying them on the slopes and am able to handle intermediates with confidence now. Just don't forget to latch the back of the boots as leaving them unlatched will result in a very flexible boot.
