Mostly, I use this as my urban walking jacket. My old Sierra Design waterproof jacket lost some of it's waterproofedness and I was in the market for something I use to survive bay area wet winter days. This could easily be used for day hiking in wet conditions as well. I haven't really tested it in downpour conditions...but it's kept me dry from the rain to date.
I like the flexibility of the liner being it's own jacket. It can get a little steamy when you have both the liner and the shell zipped up and you're moving around a lot. Being able to shed a layer is a real bonus (either the shell when it's dry, or the liner when it's wet).
While the sleeve length and chest are true to fit, there's not a lot of extra room when the liner is in. I like that, because the liner keeps me warm enough so that all I really need underneath is a polo or tee.
