Comments about Nordica Patron Skis - Men's - 2012/2013:
This review is a continuation now that I was able to powder test the skis. Powder tested at Big Sky and Moonlight Basin in March 2013. Powder was a bit dense and 6-12" deep. Skis had excellent floatation, the 185cm length handle well in trees with quick turn response. I kept telling myself to trust the skis and they never failed me. I can thank the rocker tips for that. The rocker is the way to go, it gets the tips out of the way of crud and prevents submarineing where a camber tip can get you in trouble. So if I combine this review with previous SKIER2 review, I almost have a one ski quiver here. Cons are the ski is heavy so putting it on your shoulders gets old fast. It works well in moguls with powder, but of course a narrower ski in firm snow is faster edge to edge. Skull graphics with flames and blood shooting out of the eyes is a bit much so I used stickers from ski areas to clean it up. Highly recommend the ski.

Comments about Nordica Patron Skis - Men's - 2012/2013:
I took a chance and bought these skis 185cm Patron based on magazine ratings and other reviews alone. Not something I normally do. But with REI satisfaction I knew my risk was low. I bought these for powder skiing and liked the specs on the combined rocker and camber. I wanted to replace my Coombas with added rocker to get the tips up and out of the way when skiing crud or deep powder. Full camber skis will naturally push the tips down but with rocker in tip and tail they get out of the way so you can pivot or jump turn more easily and little risk of tip or tail hangups. I demoed Volkl Shiros and Saloman Rocker2 in deep powder last year so I had experienced the benefit of rocker skis. Shiro a full rocker was great in powder and sluggish on the hard pack. Not a fan of the Saloman Rocker2. So when I saw the ratings of the Nordica Patron in 2013 Ski Buyers Guide as a number 2 pick and ahead of Shiro it got my attention. Further review studies helped me make a decision to buy the Patron. It was love as first bite. I skied these in Lake Tahoe's Mt. Rose after most of mountain was tracked from a recent storm. Off Piste snow in the Chutes was hard and chalky and these skis performed excellently. I could trust the edge hold on 40-55deg slopes for 1500ft vertical. Found a few meager stashes of powder in trees and saw no problems. I will need to test these in deep powder when I encounter some but I expect good results there with this skis shape, widths and moderate flex. What surprised me the most was how well these skis handled the groomed hardpack and high speed stabilty to 60+ mph. It was not ice but a nice firm Sierra snow. I do not plan to use them on eastern hardpack but I would not be surprise if they did ok. Also for a fat ski this ski had nice edge to edge fast turn response faster than Shiro and Rocker2 even in moguls. So the combination of camber and rocker in these skis is a winner for me. Can't wait to test drive them in the deep power. Stay tuned...
