Comments about Cordillera High Plains Down Coat - Women's - 2012 - Special Buy:

I bought this "700 down fill" jacket to keep my gf warm when we go backpacking. When it came in the mail it was completely flat and I was suprised at the lack of loft for a down jacket. She wore it once out in town but that's about all it was good for. She did not feel comfortable that this would keep her warm in a "real" cold weather situation. Great return policy and got her a Mountain Hardwear jacket that she is happy with.

Got this for my wife for Christmas, she has wanted a Down jacket for a long time and I finally saved enough. She said its VERY warm and fits great, the length is great for windy days and its can pack down small enough to fit in a large purse/shoulder bag (when folded it is smaller than most sweatshirts) The outer layer is windproof and she thinks its the best combination of warmth and comfort without looking like the state puft marshmallow man

Comments about Cordillera High Plains Down Coat - Women's - 2012 - Special Buy:

I get compliments on this coat almost every time I wear it, on both the color and the style. They're often followed by concerns about whether such a thin coat will be warm enough, but in sub zero temperatures, it keeps me comfortable without needing more than 2 thin layers under it.
It could use another pocket, but is a great coat, especially considering the great sale price!

Comments about Cordillera High Plains Down Coat - Women's - 2012 - Special Buy:

as an ex-new yorker, i'm used to down coats in winter - giant, long down coats that are similar to sleeping bags, really, because walking and riding the subway during january was a cold, cold endeavor without one.

it's been a decade tho, and apparently down's gotten more sophisticated, and a lot... LESS.

i've been eyeing comparable coats in local outfitters' stores - thin, compressable 800+ fill down, and they're twice the price - this one was on sale here so i went for it, but because i've been trying to get some of the black out of my wardrobe i opted for the "sage" instead.

i'm not sure i'd call this "sage" - sage, to me, is a much earthier color - this is more of a "dusty pea green" and i can't tell if i like it or not. it's definitely different, i'll say that much. at least it won't get confused with everyone else's winter coat.

although i am skinny (five eight, 125 pounds) i ordered the medium, as i'm broad-shouldered and tend to fit mediums better. the sleeves fit perfectly - a small would probably have me concerned and with a bit too much wrist on display, but the coat's a bit roomy everywhere else on me - but perhaps this will be fine with a thick sweater underneath, which is how it will probably be as we're spending the winter in Mt. Shasta (yeah we're crazy). i am really happy with the length of this jacket - it's perfect, actually - just long enough that i don't feel like i'm wearing a sleeping bag, but long enough to block that strip of waist that can get hammered by cold with shorter jackets. i hope the bit of extra room doesn't mean cold can blow up inside tho.

Although I'm really new to this thin, compressable down concept and still a bit suspicious, i definitely noticed instant warmth when i tried it on. we'll have another month or so before it really gets put to the test in that regard. Hope it works and i can live with the color, because the price, at fifty percent off was right.
