Read More No two sets of feet are alike, so what works for me may not work for everyone. I bought these to do big mile days and have been using them all summer. I currently have 700 miles of mainly non-rocky trails on this first pair. I wear them with thin socks and found them to be light, breathable and very flexible. The bottom of the sole offers good protection and grip, but does not interfere with the flexibility. It looks like a lot of thought went into the design and I believe the slip-lasted construction keeps them from falling apart prematurely. Walking through puddles will soak them, but in 2-3 hours of walking they dry quickly for me. I never liked quick lace systems, but these work so well, that it's now my preferred set up. I bought these on clearance and would do so again, but… I would not pay the full retail price for these when there are other shoes that are just as good for less cost. The color choices are not to my taste, but that does not influence my decision. 5 stars, but would knock off a star if I had to pay more. -

I'm kicking myself for not sending them back. Very hot shoe with poor air flow. Tight around the ball of my foot yet very loose in the heal. Hoping this shoe breaks in because they weren't cheap. -

Read More Great shoe. Salomon lacing system is excellent as always and handsome aesthetics. I've been a new balance minumus runner for years and finding a minimal waterproof trail runner was tough. This is the most minimal fit-right-out-of-the-box waterproof trail runner I've found after much searching and returns to REI. I got em soley for backpacking. Snug fit in the toe box initially but they mold well. Only reason I gave em a 4 is because for a waterproof shoe they have poor traction in wet conditions, especially when encountering rock or wood. Not a problem though, if you are a sure footed hiker/runner... Salomon still makes the best trail runners/hikers I've found but they need to step up to a Vibram super grippy rubber outsole... Then they would be unstoppable. -

Read More I use these on long day hikes and for training for same (12-20 mile days). My buddy wore them on our Whitney day hike 22 miles. I did San Jacinto 15 miles they're perfect. Comfort out of the box. The lace system cranks down turniquet (sp?) tight if you want. I must say not the most handsome shoe in its category, but you can't beat the performance. Highly recommended. Running/training up to 5 miles at a time, no problems on the streets. Very cushioned. No problems on rocky trails and good grip on scrambles. The integral tongue keeps sand and rocks out. These are awesome. I have the non water proof version which are very breathable. GREAT SHOES!
Read More This was my second pair of Salomon hiking shoes from REI. I was thrilled with the first pair, and they have lasted many years. But it was time to replace them. I was very disappointed in this model. I tried them around the house with the insoles, and the fit felt tight width- and length-wise. They were better without the insoles, so I decided to try them on an easy flat hike. I found the shallow toe box to be intolerable. I've sent them back to REI, and I'm going to try a different brand when I'm in the Seattle store this weekend.
