Was looking for some trail runners and compared XA Comp 7 CS (size 9.5) with Salomon's XA PRO 3D (size 9), so go half a size bigger on these.
The fit of the XA COMP felt better in the store, so I went with these. Tried running with them, but they're not really conducive to running. Too rigid and clunky for that. The Salomon website actually classifies these as hikers with some running. So something that the sales staff should be aware of.
However, I really like the way they feel, they're easy to slip on, the waterproofness is great for morning walks with the dogs, and they are a great all around walking, hiking shoe. First time in Salomons and I do like the lacing system.
Now I just need to find some trail running shoes.

I use these for wet & sandy training runs in the surf line. They dry fast and are holding up well to salt and the overall humidity of SE Asia. Stability is good as I train with a loaded ruck but didn't need to go into full boots.
My one minor peeve is that the speed laces are a little too long. Other than that good shoes.

I didn't look closely enough to see that it was water resistant. I really like the Salomon shoes, they fit great, comfy, and very stable. However, it confirms my thoughts about water resistant shoes: they just make my feet sweaty and clammy. In cooler conditions not so bad. All my footwear are leather, canvas, etc with no GoreTex(r) liner or other water resistant finish.

I use these shoes for disc golf and only disc golf. I have been using primarily the Merrel Moabs, but I wanted to try something different. Will I switch back to the Merrel's? I am not sure yet.
The Salomon's are a great pair of shoes. Extremely comfortable. The lacing system is great. I read a lot of reviews where they said that they lacing gets loose throughout the day of wearing the shoes, the do loosen up, but I find that it just makes the shoes more comfortable. Like the shoes are adjusting themselves to your feet. I needed a pair of shoes that are waterproof. These work extremely well in wet conditions, yes they are waterproof. Some shoes say that they are waterproof, but they are really only water resistant. The Salomon's are waterproof.
The only knock that I can find on these shoes is the tread. For normal walking, running, or even trail hiking, these shoes are perfect. As for disc golf, the tread pattern is too small. The impact point of your plant foot needs to have a larger spot to land on. What I have found out is the wear pattern is much faster in these shoes compared to the Merrels because of the tread pattern. Other than that, great shoes, and I recommend them to everyone.

I have narrow and long feet so I was pleased when I found the XA Comp 5 shoes a couple of years ago; so satisfied that I wanted another pair but they were discontinued before I could buy them. Now that the tread on the XA Comp 5 shoes is wearing out (prematurely?), I bought the XA 7s. I noticed that Salomon replaced the Gore-Tex weatherproofing with something called ClimaShield. My feet seem to sweat much more in the new shoes than they ever did in the XA 5s. I wonder if the new stuff doesn't breathe as well as Gore-Tex did? I also noticed that Salomon has changed the lacing system slightly. Before the laces were anchored to an eyelet so the cinching mechanism always stayed top dead center. Now the laces are more traditional and are not anchored to the shoe, so the cinching system tends to move a bit to the left or right after tightening.
Bottom Line: another example where a manufacturer took an almost perfect design and cheapened it (but raised the price).

I have worn Salomon shoes for the past 20 years and these are one of my favorite. I use these on the trails in Park City UT. I have used them in the snow/slush so far and they keep my feet nice and dry (1-3 mile walks twice a day). I can't wait for the spring when I really start to put miles on them, I will average around 10-15 miles a day. Not sure on durability so far if they wear out to fast I will definately be editing my review.

I'm writing a review for last years model. They were great while they lasted. I used them for every day use, but they only lasted for 4 months or so until they started to fall appart. The outside corner by the small toe broke open and the gor-tex liner soon wore through and waterproofing went with it. I'm a big fan of the lacing system. It makes the shoes very easy to put on and take off. Great if you need to run out the door durring puppy training. They do tend to loosen up as the day goes on but this didn't bother me as I like my shoes to fit a bit loose for every day use. If you are looking for something that will stay snug for trail running or light hiking look for a traditional lace system rather the system used on these shoes. If these shoes could hold up for a year or so they would be my ideal shoe, but since they did not I'll be taking these back and trying something else.
