Comments about Saucony ProGrid Kinvara 3 Road-Running Shoes - Men's:
I've been converting to a mid-foot strike for a couple of years now. This shoe provides enough cushioning so that if you have some heel strike, it won't kill your foot.
I wore out a couple of pairs of Kinvara 2's and I didn't hesitate to get the 3 when it came out. So far it seems more durable than the 2.
These shoes are very lightweight which pays off the longer you run.

Comments about Saucony ProGrid Kinvara 3 Road-Running Shoes - Men's:
When I needed to extend my miles, I transitioned to these from VFF Bikilas, and my feet are loving me for it. The ONLY thing I wish these shoes had were the triathlon quick tie laces. Other than that, these shoes are perfect. The 4mm heel to toe drop feels pretty natural, and still allows for a mid-foot strike. The cushioning is a nice compromise between ground feel and ground protection, and loses very little in the way of flexibility. I would not however categorize this as a "minimalist" shoe. Merrells and Vibrams are minimalist, this is just an incredible shoe with some minimalist qualities.

Comments about Saucony ProGrid Kinvara 3 Road-Running Shoes - Men's:
I bought my Kinvara 3's from another store because I wear a wide and REI doesn't sell this shoe in wide. Anyway, I love REI so I thought I'd add a review here. I used to wear "traditional" running shoes until I began reading about foot strike, etc, and decided to try out a minimalist shoe. Kinvara was the only shoe of this type I found in a wide (new this year, I guess) so I tried it out. Wow, is all I can say. First time in the shoes I ran six miles, next time ten miles, all asphalt and hard pack. A month later I ran my first marathon in them. I know people say to slowly work into minimalist shoes, and everyone is different, but I think I jumped right in and it's worked very well for me. I have hot feet when I run an hour plus and normally have a couple small blisters after 15ish miles, in my "old" shoes. After my first maybe two runs these shoes were broken in and they breathe so well I had zero blisters, even after 26.2! To me this is amazing! I've also taken these shoes on technical trails, on rocks, etc, which was probably not the best idea but I was curious. This leads to my only minor, potential complaint: longevity. Maybe minimalist shoes will wear out faster than beefier traditional shoes and that may be the case with the Kinvara. Even so, I feel it's worth it since shoes, after all, are probably the most important "gear" of the runner and I love these shoes. I only wish the trail version came in wide as well... anyway, happy running.

Comments about Saucony ProGrid Kinvara 3 Road-Running Shoes - Men's:
This is my 6th pair of Kinvara shoes. I had 2 pairs of the original Kinvara, 3 pairs of Kinvara 2 and now this pair. Along the way I've used them for runs of up to 12 hours, both on and off road. When my last set of Kinvara 2 shoes wore out I decided to experiment. First I tried the latest Nike Free. They were very comfy but a little too squishy and the deeply slotted sole meant I was constantly having to pick bits of gravel out of them. Next I tried the Brooks Pure Connect. They were a little softer than the Kinvara but they had one fatal flaw: they were EXTREMELY slippery on hilly, wet, smooth asphalt/concrete. That's a BIG problem when you live in Seattle. By the time I'd given up on the Brooks the Kinvara 3 was out so I got a pair. I now have 70 miles on them and they're great. Honestly, I can't really tell that they've changed anything from the previous editions of the Kinvara. I also run in Vibrams though I have to say I prefer the Kinvara for anything more than an hour.
