Comments about REI 3-1-1 Air Travel Liquids Bag:
Constructed from crystal-clear urethane. Water resistant zip. Very strong. Two tie-down loops, one on either end of the zipper. One loop has a mini-biner. Weight measured at 1.14oz/33g w/biner. Exact same length & width dimensions as a Ziplock-brand 1qt freezer bag turned sideways. The REI bag is gusseted on the bottom edge so it will hold considerably more than a flat Ziplock. The REI zipper is along the long edge allowing easier loading/unloading than a standard Ziplock. Zipper closes well and slides easily with a metal pull. There is a tiny gap at the zipper end when closed: the bag is not completely waterproof but occlusive enough so that pressure must be applied to force trapped air out of the hole. The REI bag is much more durable than a standard polyethelyne bag, and it is easier to close and holds more than a flat Aloksak. Though it is not completely waterproof upon submersion as is an Aloksak I have no doubt it is well suited to contain any toiletry spills and should even serve well to protect electronics or other sensative items from water during anything short of prolonged submersion. It is crystal-clear and labled with the REI logo and the phrase "3 1 1 for air travel 1 quart size bag". I attempted to remove the logo by rubbing with with alcohol, as is possible with an Aloksak (which I beleive is also a urethane formulation,) but was unsuccessful. I find this bag to be an excellent value compared to similar bags such as the Sea-To-Summit which is very good but pricey, and the Eagle Creek which appears to be vinyl and not as durable, standard poly Ziplocks which disintegrate after a couple of trips, and Aloksaks which cost nearly as much, are harder to open and close and are not gusseted and so are less volumus. I recommend using this with the excellent but somewhat pricey "REI 3 oz. Bottle Set" made from PET and which are flatish and pack well or 3oz Nalgene bottles made from polyethelyne and somewhat bulker as they are cylindrical. Less recommended are Gotoob bottles which are rather bulky and are made from silicon, which can react with and catalyze many liquids and which have been known to leak thin liquids.
Hot tip- you can screw a Nalgene flip spout onto an REI bottle and create a near-perfect TSA-compliant toiletry container. The REI bottle is light and strong, but comes with a "push-flip" spout and could open accedentally. The Nalgene flip spout is much less likely to do this.
Happy travels.
