Comments about Osprey FlapJill Daypack - Women's:
This backpack is as near to perfect as I have found. It is easy to wear, easy to slip on even if I have my hands pretty full and am wearing a coat, and also easy to carry as a tote (the top grab handle is well-padded but big enough to accomodate mitten-clad hands). I also like the interchangeable strap colors, which let me customize its look.
I carry all my stuff to the elementary school where I work, and then need it on-hand so I can do *my* homework and errands later on. I need to carry my purse (in the open front section under the flap) as well as my laptop (in the zippered sleeve), the charger (in the lower zipper compartment under the flap), and a textbook (in the pouch at the back of the pack). I can get a CamelBak Podium water bottle and a few parachute fabric tote bags in the outside side pocket for quick access. The little pocket on the flap is great for keys and such, and there is an inside pocket running down the side that I haven't even used yet.
I only have two wishes/tweaks:
The zippered laptop sleeve is just a bit tight for my MacBook Pro, which is 13" wide and less than an inch deep. If I tried to fit my old Sony in there, I wouldn't be able to do it. I could put it in the very back pouch, but I like having it zippered in and sort of protected from dust. The zippered sleeve also sits up off the floor of the pack a bit so it's more protected. Another 1/4" in the length of the zipper would make it much easier to get the laptop in and out. I am planning to slip a piece of wide grosgrain around the laptop to make a pull-tab so it's easier to remove it.
With my laptop in place, the other openings (especially the front storage area) become tight, too, and I have a tough time pulling my purse in and out. My purse is a backpack style bag and not all that big, really. So a bit of wiggle room there would be nice, too. I know the tighter opening is to keep things from faling out, but maybe an adjustable snap system or a draw string would help.
All that said, I am SO happy with my Osprey FlapJill Daypack! It is lightweight and looks nice enough to carry everywhere. I expect to be carrying this one for years!

Comments about Osprey FlapJill Daypack - Women's:
I walked by this bag in the store and I thought it was really nice. I deliberately left my wallet in my car because I didn't want to spend any money, but the more I looked at it the more I was able to rationalize it.
I take the train to work at least once a week. My existing North Face messenger bag that I bought in 2006 was really bulky when loaded with my laptop, binder, notebook, file folder, iPad, chords and mouse. I was also carrying a separate REI Nikole Day Bag and sometimes a little shopping bag to hold even more stuff. Obviously, I had a tough time making it down the aisle of the commuter rail.
I went back to my car and got my wallet, went home and unpacked my North Face bag and packed everything into this one. My work-issued laptop fits in the inside sleeve, but it does have to be loaded when the bag is vertical. The bag is narrow. I am still learning to pack it, but I was able to take the train the next day with just this backpack and a small paper shopping bag to hold my huge, noise isolating headphones and my fruit.
Bottom line: this bag was clearly designed with a commuter in mind and I wish I had discovered it sooner. I would have saved me a lot of apologies for bumping people on my way to a seat.
