Comments about The North Face Plasma Thermal Jacket - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
Having lived in the southwest for 8 years, I needed a warm jacket desperately for the midwest winters. Problem is that the midwest winters, I've discovered, are not just cold, they're wet, windy, and often full of a winter mix that can just get you down. Looking through the retrospectoscope, this jacket was a fantastic choice.
Fit - Definitely slim cut, but not so much as MH stuff, which is designed for people with no waists and monkey arms, this looks incredibly good, but you can still layer under it easily.
Warmth - I had read that people were routinely utilizing this with just a T-shirt down to 20-30. I had a hard time believing that, and honestly at the beginning of winter, I still needed a sweatshirt under it. Now that I've been more aclimatized to winters, I can say that it's certainly true. The other nice thing, is that you don't look like the staypuff man with this on, it's very low profile.
I wear this when its 45 and below, and really don't need to layer unless it hits about 15
Wind - Awesomely windproof, i.e. makes me acutely aware that my pants are not windproof when its windy
Water - Waterproof, and although it doesn't look it, the garment is seamsealed, I have not had a problem in rain, sleet, winter mix, and snow
Durability - I've worn this about 5 days a week for 4 months now, and it's still intact, still sheds rain, and doesn't have any scratches or marks. No areas of saturation with wetness, and no piling of the fleece lining the collar.
My only real complaint is that the main zipper will get stuck sometimes while zipping it up. Initially its a real pain, but once you realize that you just have to hold one of the rainslips out of the way when you're zipping it up, you can usually avoid doing it.
One important thing of note - like all technical fabrics, this will retain odors food and smoke odors. Just air it out and they go away in a day or two

Comments about The North Face Plasma Thermal Jacket - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
Purchased this jacket as I did not own a waterproof, warm jacket. The armpit vents really work once I work up a sweat on long walks/hikes. Waterproof and windproof. Zipper can catch on the flaps at times and you need both hands to get it zipped up past the base of the neck. Zipper is not a reason not to buy the jacket though. So far, no problems. Better to buy the jacket from REI as their return policy as a member beats The North Face's.

Comments about The North Face Plasma Thermal Jacket - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
It fits "smaller" than some of North Face's other stuff--which is a good thing for me. I really wish the logo was embroidered--I know that sounds petty. I would have also paid to see a Gortex version. I recall that a similar jacket with Gortex (Mountain Jacket?) was much larger than this one. Satisfied so far.
