I found the jewel on the clearance rack at my local REI and couldn't pass it up. It work great for my layering system giving me the ability to travel lighter on trips that get cooler at night. I love the thumbholes which kept the sleeves in place and kept my wrists covered and warm. The material is very comfortable and I loved the fit of the hood.

Great job REI!

Rated a four, cause nothing is perfect :)

i was originally looking for a minimal baselayer type tope w/ hood for cold weather climbing up on Mt. Lemmon. I was looking for the Patagonia Capilene® 4 Expedition Weight 1/4-Zip Hoody, but found this instead, this product. It works fantastic in windy conditions, when i was projecting routes & it was below 40F & windy it kept my upper body warm. i love the minimalist design of the product & it's $40-50 cheaper than the Patagonia hoody. love the material & colors (i got the red). the extra long zip is also helpful for ventilation & the thumb loops are great too. i'm planning on procuring another one very soon since i'm always going to have this in my pack. REI should NEVER discontinue this product. i'm going to try out the MHW mighty hoodie, hopefully it'll be as good as this one.

I was shopping for a heavyweight long underwear top, but REI's medium, which I normally wear, was way too tight on me and they had no large so I kept looking around and found the Airflyte. The medium seemed too small, but, the large fit very nicely. The large was only a little big, and the sleeves a bit long for me, but I like the way it fits anyway. This allows for more layering underneath. The hood fits perfect without any tighteners on it. I gave it 4 stars because the sizing is a little off. I like that the material smoothly layers underneath another jacket as opposed the the REI underwear top which seemed stickier. I wouldnt say it is as heavy as heavyweight long underwear, but it seems between a midweight and heavyweight. It was a happy accident to find this great hoodie that I will wear as a layer or as a top. I wasn't sure I liked the grey with green trim, but after I got home and wore it, I was very satisfied with how it looked and felt. Stylish and more comfortable than I expected. Snowshoeing in 22 degree weather I wore a baselayer, the Airflyte, and my Mountain Hardwear Principia jacket over it and was completely comfortable. After shoeing awhile I actually took off my Principia jacket and was fine with just the base and airflyte. Nice job REI !

I got one of these last year for running in the cold. Admittedly I like to stay warm, and will err on the over-dressed side. The thing that's really nice with this shirt is that it has built in mittens and the hood. The ends of the sleeves can be configured any of three ways; "normal", with the thumbs in the thumb holes, or maximum warmth, with the hoods pulled over, completely covering the hands. That way you don't have to bring gloves along, only to want to take them off once you warm up.
There isn't anything I can think of that's bad about this, other than the phone/ipod pocket on the chest allows for a phone to really bounce around when running. I use the back pocket in the pants for the phone.

I need to get another one so I can have a clean one available all the time this winter!

I wear a 16 neck, 35 inch sleeve dress shirt. Tried on several hoodies with thumbholes in large at both REI and other outdoor stores, and this brand has the longest sleeves and tail, which makes it the most comfortable. The hood is just the right size to fit under a helmet without totally obstructing peripheral vision. The hood folds comfortably around your neck when not over your head. I bought black, the flat grey and muted orange weren't my favorite colors. REI should add some zip to their color palate. Goes well with the Novarra Headwind Bike Pants to stay cozy warm in windy weather. For the money, sizing and fit, the best choice.
