    • NOW PLAYING

The Yakima DoubleDown Ace 5 bike rack gives you the best of both worlds by safely transporting up to 5 bikes, and then providing easy access to your vehicle.

    • Installation to vehicle is a breeze and requires no tools; rack locks to hitch for security
    • Once bikes are removed, tilt-down mast lowers rack out of the way to provide access to back of vehicle
    • Fits most bikes, but an adapter (sold separately) may be required for women’s or kids’ bikes; not designed for use with tandem or recumbent bikes
    • Anti-sway bike cradles eliminate bike-to-bike contact and bike-to-vehicle contact
    • Rubber straps on each cradle securely anchor bike into place
    • Cradle arms can be lowered when not in use
    • Intuitive levers with anti-pinch trigger covers make folding cradle arms and mast a simple endeavor
    • Fits 1.25 in. and 2 in. receiver hitches; designed for Class II hitches and higher
    • DoubleDown Ace 5 bike rack has 2 integrated bottle openers—one on each end of the arms

Comments about Yakima DoubleDown Ace Hitch Rack - 5 Bike:

On a positive note, the rack is solid, high-quality, and extremely stable. There was no rattling at all in the hitch. The tilt-away feature is very easy to use. However, I had hoped to use this rack to hold 2 adult bikes, two 20-inch youth mountain bikes, and one 16-inch child bike. The men's bike had no problem fitting, but my 26-in Novara mountain bike required much effort to maneuver onto the too-wide arm posts. I probably should have purchased the $36 top tube accessory to make it fit, but I would think for the price of the rack that an adult bike would fit. The girl's 20-in bike required the top tube accessory or it wouldn't fit at all. The boy's 20-inch bike also required much effort. The child's bike would not fit at all, because a.) the arms were too wide to support it and b.) the rack arms are not long enough to hold a fifth bike, child- or adult-sized. The four bikes were already crammed onto the arms and scratched each other up pretty good. If you attempt to cram four or five bikes on there, you will need some kind of padding in between the bikes. Finally, the max load limit is not listed anywhere on the package or online, but only at the end of the instructions. Max. load is 125 lbs. We hit that limit with the 4 bikes.

Comments about Yakima DoubleDown Ace Hitch Rack - 5 Bike:

Great rack! When assembling, do NOT remove the plastic pad at the mast joint -- it's intentionally there to cushion the mast thereby improving stability (i.e. less wiggle). You have to press REALLY hard to squish it. That's normal. I just wish the instructions would've said so! Also NOTE: you'll need a shaft extension if you have a rear-mounted spare tire.

Comments about Yakima DoubleDown Ace Hitch Rack - 5 Bike:

I wanted to be able to carry a bike for every person in my car (5) and even bought a different car to support this level of weight in the back (a Subaru Forester). I could carry 5 bikes on my old car too but this necessitated loading 2 bikes on the roof with two separate racks and then a third rack on the rear hatch holding 3 bikes. Not only did this require multiple trips from my apartment building to my car to outfit it with the racks, but bikes had to be lifted up fairly high to put onto the racks---and I'm short for a guy (5'7") so this was difficult. This Yakima hitch-mounted 5 bike rack is a breeze to use. One(1) trip from my apartment to the car and it installs in seconds. And bikes don't have to be lifted nearly as high to get onto the rack. Haven't hauled 5 bikes yet but just did 4 and it worked great. The rack seems really well made and well designed. It weighs 35 pounds but I can carry it with one hand if I balance it properly. Would definitely recommed this rack to anyone needing to carry many bikes with ease. I think you have to have a sturdy car to attach it to though. Don't think you can really use this on a small economy car; a small SUV is needed.

        Service and delivery comments:

I bought the rack from a local REI store and they had the model I wanted in stock. The staff seemed knowlegeable about the products they sell which seems rare anymore.

Comments about Yakima DoubleDown Ace Hitch Rack - 5 Bike:

I bought the optional cable lock and it came with a replacement tumbler for the hitch lock so the keys would match. Now that's thinking.
The bike stabilizers inherent to the strapping work really well. I'm not a huge fan of the rubber straps but I'm happy to put up with them for the better price of this rack.
Full suspension MTB that don't have a high top tube require one of those seat to handlebar adapters to be able to hang on the mount.

Comments about Yakima DoubleDown Ace Hitch Rack - 5 Bike:

I've only used it twice with the longest travel being about 30 minutes on the interstate but it did the trick. It bounces around a bit but I think I just have to get used it. Getting 5 bikes on it is a trick but I did it (no problem for 4 bikes). Strapping the bikes in with the rubber straps took a little practice to do quickly. Easy to attach to hitch. Haven't tried the bottle openers yet :P. Overall a good rack at a good price.
